SOURCE: Hood latch release cable broken
ok if you can access the end of the cable from inside the car try using a set of vise grips to hold it and carefully pull to open the hood. if you need to access the latch from the grill its a tight squeeze but I recall that a thin screw driver was able to move the lever to release the latch. see the attached pic the unit is upside down try to push the lever towards the drivers side http://www.worldimpex.com/assets/partimages/043694.jpg

YES! The cable runs Through the firewall then on the rh fender then across the front of the core support which is in the very front. Get a light and apair of needle nose pliers. the cable is black and about1/4" size. Grab and pull or cut and pull. You'll be replacing it anyways! The release is on the inside, cut it apart and grab the inside wire and pull, it will be stubborn because what caused it to break was a dry or maladjusted latch.

2000 FORD SUPER DUTY 5.4 HOOD STICKS.YOU CAN HAVE AN ASSISTANT PULL THE HOOD CABLE AND EASILY OPEN THE HOOD BUT THE HOOD WILL NOT POP UP ON ITS OWN..ANY ADVISE?
It may be that your hood release cable that runs from the hood release is broken. You'r going to have to try and manually release the hood latch by tripping the release through the grill with something like a long screwdriver. You should be able to identify the latch trigger by following the cable to end.
You might also try having push down on the hood while another person tries to trip the latch if the cable isn't broken, but just stuck.
