I have a 2001 Volvo C70 Conv. 2.4L and my mechanic says I need to replace the "final stage resistor" to fix the problem of no a/c blower at all. I get blinking orange lights on the climate control panel when I set the controls. No setting starts the blower. Is the "final Stage resistor" the same as the "blower motor resistor" and can I find a guide for changing it out?

SOURCE: 1998 volvo c70 drivers side,

I have replaced many of these, and it is a very difficult job. There are many steps you need to take as you are removing and re-installing the new window regulator that are crucial for a properly adjusted and operable window. Find someone who has experience replacing these or you will have wind and water leaks, and the door will not open or close like it should. Sorry to be a downer, but this is the reality of your situation.

SOURCE: no air or heat blowing from vents

if the fan is blowing this could be a problem with the climate controll switch that changes the direction of air from floor to defrost to vents, some are vacuum controlled through a vacuum operated mechanism that opens and closes a door in the vents which redirects the air to different places.

What is the best access to the 2000 323i blower moter

remove Remove the glove box and rear trim panel to access blower motor, are u sure it is not the blower speed control that is the source of your problem? that is the most common failure
Here is a copy of the instruictions to replace that component if needed courtesy of Just Answer.com

I believe that the component the BMW tech was referring to is the blower final stage (like an electronically controlled blower resistor assembly). This is a very common failure item on this model, and causes the symptoms you describe.
BMW has a revised part number for this component, which lasts much longer than the original design. When you call the BMW dealer for the part, it is #(P/N 64 11 8 385 549).
The IHKA blower final stage resistor is located behind the right side footwell vent duct. Here is the replacement procedure:
(1) Remove the glove box and rear trim panel to access the area behind the duct.
(2) Remove the two attaching screws from the stepper motor bracket and carefully disconnect the flap rod from the stepper motor arm. Remove the stepper motor to access the final stage resistor. Note: Do NOT turn on the ignition switch while the steeper motor is removed from the case.
(3) Remove the connector from the final stage resistor and the two attaching screws. Remove the IHKA blower final stage resistor and replace it with the improved PN 64 11 8 385 549

the final stage resistor on all BMW blower motors controls everything (power and grond ) 99% of blower motor issues is the resistor. not to hard to install either.
