It does sound like a vacuum like and the intake is a good place to start. Carburetor cleaner can be sprayed around the edges of the intake to look for leaks and a change in RPM will accure. The brake booster is another area you can have vacuum leaks
Dealer not interested in your problem
low vacuum at idle ( normally 15 inches of mg) indicates problem intake valves
check the valve clearance ( .010"intake hot .012" exhaust hot)
you can set it the same cold as the settings will change but still be within specs for the hydraulic followers to compensate
the firing order could have 2 ht leads crossed and that will also cause low vacuum

check your fuel pressure, should be 40lbs+ at idle. If you dont know how to do this, have a friend or a shop check it for you. I had same problem, no power at all would barely run ect,, turned out to be fuel pump.

Hi. I had the same problem on my 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins. I went to the dealer and they did a bunch of diagnostics and they replaced my fuel pump. At the same time they put in a retrofit kit that moved the fuel pump to the inside of the gas tank. I have not had the problem since. The cost was about $1,200, but my 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty covered it and I had to pay the $100 deductible.

This is a design issue in the Cummins engine. Dodge solved the problem in 2008/09 larger engine by making it a closed crankcase vent system thus the residue is re-burnt if it makes it to the intake. They never tried earlier to solve it because they were afraid of a runaway engine. I made my own vent system using a large air compressor oil separator and tapped into the vent and oil return pipe before the check valve. I also then routed the vent to the air intake box on the side open to the outside air as far from the suction as possible! I used an old air cleaner vent with the fiber filter fitting through the side of the box. Use a separator with 3/4 inch intake fittings. It stops the mess with around town drives but after a long trip you'll want to change the air filter and wipe out the box! Always make sure the system never plugs! Clean the separator every time you change oil. It's better than stock but that engine is just messy the way Dodge allowed it to be built! If you improve upon this idea post it so I can benefit!

go to a salvage yard to buy complete steering colum.use those parts to repair old colum or just change them out. may even find one the same color.you will need special tools to relace some parts if you choose to repair . otherwise to replace is not too bad of a job
