Mass air flow sensor

I have narrowed down my problem to this, but the problem is I don't know where it is. Please don't laugh, I am a 55 year old woman, and I can't for the life of me figure out where it is and how to get to it.

Need to know how to clean a mas air flow censor on a ford econoline van 91

I don't believe this year model uses a mass air flow sensor, but a map sensor . but to clean a mass air flow sensor, you have to remove it from the sensor housing, then look at the wires in the sensor, then take a cotton swab with alcohol on it and very gently rub the wires with it.

Code P0102 shows up indicates Mass Air Flow Sensor. 1998 Olds Intrigue. It is like it has the hiccups and dies when slowing down and coming to a stop. Is replacing the Mass Air Flow Sensor likely going to...

Try this first. You can buy some MAF cleaner( not carb cleaner) and try to clean it off. Let it dry completely and don't probe the sensor with anything but spray from the cleaner. Change the air filter with a quality filter; the cheaper ones leave deposits on the sensor.

Runs rich very strong exhaust.replaced plugs 02 sensor. wondering if its the mass air flow sensor.

have you checked the air filter - a partially clogged air filter would make it run too rich. Also it's 15 year old car, check all the connectors and wires under the bonnet for security and cleanliness - dont suspect anything till you know the wiring is good.
Air flow sensor is highly likely - you're right to suspect it... but it could be a faulty temp sensor or even a faulty ECU.

Car starts. But when I hit the gas it shuts off.

This could be many things. I used to have a nissan altima that would do this. Could be anything from bad sensors such as a throttle position sensor, oxygen sensor, or possibly a mass air flow sensor. Other possibilites include bad parts of the ignition system: spark plugs, plug wires, distributor/ignition coils. In my case I picked up a used mass air flow sensor for around $30 dollars and it fixed the problem. If you could descibe the problem in more detail I might be able to help narrow it down.

Runs rough when cruising at 35-40 mph

try pulling off the air breather hose and look inside at the mass air flow sensor,it looks like a wire with a diode hooked to it incase you didnt know, see if there is any fuzz on it,sometimes the air filter will lose small pieces and the mass air flow sensor catches it.If that doesnt work then you may have a fuel problem, weak pressure, causing the mass air flow sensor to read too much air so it tricks the computer to adjust the issue.
