I was driving my 95 lumina when it just stopped. I cut the ignition off and then tried to restart it, it would run but only for a minute or so. Now it tries to start but wont. What could be the problem?

Hi, can you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key on? Suspect you have a fuel delivery issue. You can easily check for fuel pressure if there is a schrader valve on your fuel rail (looks like the air valve on a tire but bigger). If you have the valve, cover it with a rag while you depress the stem momentarily to see if there is fuel pressure there.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5821173-doesnt_car_start_gasoline_engines . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

DO you have any engine codes still remaining? IF car restarts right away its gonna be tricky finding out what is dropping out. Engine codes are the best clue to start the hunt for problem. From experience however, I have had a few of these come in for same symptom. There are two wires that run from Ignition module/coil pack to the crank sensor, insulation falls off and they melt to each other or to hot engine, intermittent short disruption of signal, hence car stalls whenever wherever and restarts right away.

I think the yellow wire that goes to ignition switch is the one that shuts the injectors down.Cutting it should keep the computer from shutting injectors off.

97 lumina, 3.1. Starts runs smooth, drive for 30

I just recently have been fighting the same problem with the same make/model/year vehicle. For myself, I would drive off and on through the day and it would run fine. Then suddenly after a start it would run rough and die. I would have to wait 20 to 60 mins before it would start again. I had it checked and fuel pump was only putting out around 19 psi. It should be around 41 psi. Had fuel pump replaced and no more problems. Furthermore, now it runs so much better. It's funny how over time I didn't notice how the performance was slowly degrading. Unfortunaley fuel pumps for this car run around $300.

When I drive the lumina about 20 miles and brake to stop engine dies. Will restart in park but as soon as put in drive or reverse it instently dies after it cools about 10-15 minets can restart and drive

a bad crank sensor causes a car to shut down while driving down road. and will not start back up for about 10 minutes. have car scanned to read the problem codes. any auto parts stores will scan for free.

Stalls when under load "driving"

Check the ignition module. My car would run fine until it came up to full temp and then run bad. I continued driving the car while trying to diagnose the problem. It got worse and then one day the car stalled as if it ran out of gas (still had plenty in the tank). I was able to coast it into a parking spot and called for a ride. Upon returning, I tried to start it, started right up and ran fine. On the way home it started acting up again (once it was up to temp). It turned out to be the ignition module.

Engine cuts off starts when it cools off 1991chevy lumina drives for a bit then stops let sit for a few minutes and restart it

Hi,

Sounds like the ignition coil is getting bad it gets hot and stops working and when it cools off it works again. I would replace it and your problem should be solved.
