The transmission fluid you use should have a Ford approval number on the back of the bottle. If it doesn't, then any warranty done by a Ford Dealer on the trans since 1996 is void. Most trans have a 100K mile warranty when new and after any complete replacements. Using the wrong Spec. trans fluid will damage the transmission and always check the level when the engine is hot as ATF expands when heated. Mobil ATF D/M will work... Mobil Synthetic ATF won't in your Explorer! Ford comes with Exxon ATF from the factory and owners state that it's not the best.
From a quick search online and reading a little in some forums, it looks like the transmission fluid has to meet certain specs, and there may be only a few aftermarket fluids that do. Probably need to check to see if the fluid you used meets the Kia specs. You may have to do a drain and fill at least once if you contaminated it with an incompatible fluid. You can use cheap carb cleaner to spray around manifold gaskets while the engine is idling to check for leaks. If it sucks the carb cleaner in, the idle will stumble and you found a leak. Valve cover gasket shouldn't affect engine running. Might cause an oil leak, but that's about it.
just a different make or brand ,none at all unless you put EP90 hypoid oil in ,never mind what you see on CSI about different coloured oils this is just a story so long as the spec is on the can ATF dex then no problem as i use a lot of dextron tipper hydraulic oil for rams in auto boxes as its the same spec as the ATF dextron and for what i pay for 5 litres i can buy 25 litres for the same price of dextron tipper oil and its got the same spec codes on as the ATF .but its oil colour and not red
1. Power steering fluid DOES need changing because it deteriorates with time and use.
2. You use exactly the fluid type and spec which is specified in the owner's manual . The type of PS fluid to be used depends on the type of PS system fitted to your particular car. These systems can be and are changed during a model run .
3. The fluid you have in the car is red because it is Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). Only use the type of ATF specified in the manual. For example if it states use ATF Dexron III or if it states Mobil ATF 3309 or another type only use that spec ATF. (I believe you will have Dexron III product in the car now and it will be the non-synthetic type).
4. You can refresh the PS fluid over time yourself by sucking out some fluid from the reservoir and adding fresh fluid. It is easy to pump out fluid using the pump fitting removed from a plastic trigger spray bottle. Just unscrew the spray nozzle from the tip of the trigger unit before you use it to pump out fluid. Remove and add fluid to the reservoir 5 or 6 times or more over a couple of weeks and you will eventually renew most of the PS fluid. Do not remove fluid once it drops to the level of the top of the top hose connected to the reservoir and then just top up each time to the correct level in the reservoir. It's really that easy.
I suggest bring the vehicle to a repair shop to :
a) check for leaks and ATF condition ( burnt smell ,shavings, and coolant in ATF) Any one of these conditions may indicate a rebuild.
b) if no leaks are found and ATF is in decent condition fill tranny to proper level and check for slipping.
c) if slipping doesn't happen after level is brought up to specs, DO a transmission oil filter and ATF change.(and be thankful you gotta away cheap.
d) if slipping still happens after level has been topped off
they(repair shop) will either "Stall Test it or pressure check the transmission " Good luck
Castrol Syntorq® LT 75w85w full synthetic gear oil is the only factory approved lubricant for NV4500 transmissions. ATF is for automatic transmissions and approved manual transmissions. Drain and flush with the correct oil as soon as possible or you will be rebuilding again soon. The ATF will just cause the transmission to wear out faster and shift oddly in all the gears, it shouldn't have affected only 4th. I'd take it apart again and see if you missed anything or if something else in the transmission is out of spec.
You are not "dumb".
You can't find it because it does not have one. The trans has WS (World Spec) fluid, no need to check it unless there is an obvious leak. Also, ATF changes are no longer performed with WS fluid as frequently as we do with Dexron ATF.
