How much tranamission fluid does my 1997 sable hold

THREE SPEED TRANSMISSION HOLDS 8.3 QUARTS. AND THE FOUR SPEED OVER DRIVE TRANSMISSIONS USES 13 TO 14 QUARTS DRY WITH NEW TORQUE CONVERTER.I WOULD ADD 7 QUARTS CHECK FLUID LEVEL ON DIP STICK WHILE ENGINE IDLING.ADD FLUID AS NEEDED LET ENGINE RUN UNTIL GET OPERATING TEMPERATURE.KEEP EYE ON FLUID LEVEL ON DIP STICK.WHEN FLUID LEVEL ON FULL MARK WHILE ENGINE RUNNING.SHIFT TRANSMISSION THROUGH ALL GEARS TWICE ONE AT A TIME THEN CHECK FLUID LEVEL.DONT DRIVE CAR UNTIL TRANSMISSION LEVEL CORRECT.WHEN TAKING A MILE OR TWO SPIN CARRY EXTRA FLUID.AND FUNNEL PULL OVER SOME WHERE SAFE AND LEVEL CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL AGAIN UNTIL IT IS CORRECT.YOU ARE DONE

If you have your owners manual, there is a section containing the capacities for all fluids. You may also simply check your fluid level, with a running motor and warm transmission. If the stick indicates add, start with a 1/4 quart and work your way up. Unless there is a problem with the trans, there is no real reason to ever add fluid unless your are flushing the transmission.
