Sounds like the latch is broken or the latch catch is out of alignment. you can try and spray some teflon or silicone based lube on the latch and see if it is just sticking -- some lube goes along way on moving parts. also make sure the door is lining up proper and not hitting anywhere on the frame.
but I would try the lube first,, and then look into possibly replacing the latch.

AUTO TRUNK LID DOES NOT FULLY CLOSE

adjust the latch so that the catch will lock over properly. You may need to use a round bar ( screwdriver blade ) Place it under the latch and while pressing on the release button pull the latch out to the open position. The latch may be 1/2 closed before the boot is put down and the latch will not go any further

Drivers side door will not stay closed locked or unlocked.

Check the latch mechanism on the side of the door away from the hinge. The easiest way I can think of to do this is to push a large bolt (about the same size as the door latch pin on the frame) into the latch mechanism to simulate the door closing action. The latch should close over the bolt and not allow you to pull the bolt out in the door open direction unless you open the door handle.

If the latch works properly, check the door alignment to make sure it is actually engaging the pin.

My door handle wont open my door on the drivers side. I have to roll down my window to open the door from the outside latch. Is it repairable, or do I have to replace any parts?

I have shaved door handles on a 2000 chevy silverado and the drivers side door just recently stopped opening it seems like its completely locked out and the door is closed so i cannot get to the bolts of the latch assembly when i hit the unlock button it unlocks half way and when you go to open the door it relocks itself even if you manually try to unlock the door and hold the lock forward it still wont open

My rear drivers side door on my 1998 Lumina will not stay closed & lock. The power lock works, the mechanism itself does not catch and lock the door.

Try cleaning the latch with WD40. Work the latch open and close with your fingers and lube it with the WD40.

It sounds to me ( correct me if I'm wrong ) like the door latch on the side vertical edge of the door is in the LOCKED POSITION. In order to unlock it perform the following. First electrically with the LOCK button UNLOCK the locks. Now with one hand hold the OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE IN THE OPEN POSITION, while at the same time FLIPPING OPEN THE LATCH. All Done . Now you can close the door. Hope this helps

My rear driver side door won't stay latched. If I get a latch from the junk yard for a 1995 Deville will a fleetwood door latch work? Also for the window motor on the driver side front door will they...

Have a close look at the door latch and see if it is in the lock position. If it is, pull the door handle like your going to open the door and place a screw driver or a pen in the latch and pull it open and then try to close the door and see if the latch holds the door close. The chances are good since most GM products are interchange able, the salvage Yard should answer that for you and can tell you better short cuts then any body on how to replace parts. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. Be glad to help.
