  • Wayne Fraser Jan 31, 2011

    I wanted to put the engine in a 1975 Torino .

  • Wayne Fraser Jan 31, 2011

    The Lincoln is a front wheel drive car. I have all the engine controls and harneses , computer etc . I know i would have to do a lot of modifying but the main thing is to have a transmission to match.

This transmission is unique to this car, no other transmission will work, they will bolt up but very quickly they will fail.

    It will not work in the Torino, one reason is that it is computer controlled, you would need a computer hooked to **** it, better off to stick with a type A4OD automatic from a Ford F series truck. Did you read what you wrote, you said a Front Wheel Drive Lincoln, I am sure you meant rear wheel drive correct? They made Lincoln's in front and rear wheel drive models.

    You need all the electronics, so you will need to buy and hook up the entire electronic engine control and transmission control system, this type of conversion is very expensive and requires a high level of skill to complete. The cost would be prohibitive.

No. The malibu engine is mounted sideways and the trailblazer engine is mounted longways. Each engine uses a different trany and are NOT interchangeable.

Are there cv joints on the front

constant velocity joints are for front wheel drive cars to transfer the power from the transmission/engine to the front drive wheels that turn around corners , your car is rear wheel drive , rear wheels do not turn around corners so it does not need any type of joints , its a straight drive axle , incidentally your car has the 3.o jaguar engine id bet since they were a deal ford did when obtaining jaguar (let them use them in there lux cars)

Where is the trans-axle belhousing located?

Trans-axle transmissions are transmissions and differentials in one housing with the axles coming directly out of that housing, its the housing that bolts to the engine with 2 axles coming out.
Only in these layouts:
front-engine, front-wheel, rear-engine, rear-wheel drive and rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive.

Clutch installation maual for 2000 ford focus ZX3

Don't have manual but here;

the clutch is located between the engine and transmission. Therefore you must separate the engine from the transmission to gain access to the clutch.

This is much more difficult on a front wheel drive vehicle.

On most front wheel drive vehicles the easiest way to this is to remove the engine and transmission as a unit. However on a front wheel drive vehicle the engine and transmission come out from the bottom. You disconnect all of the hoses, wiring, linkage, etc just like on a rear wheel drive vehicle. You disconnect the suspension and steering. You disconnect the front "K" member (front sub frame). Then if you have everything disconnected properly you lift the body off of the drive train. You can then separate the engine from the transmission and service the clutch. You reverse your steps to reinstall the engine.

As you can see this is much more involved than accessing the clutch on a rear wheel drive truck where the transmission can be removed without removing the engine.

There are a few front wheel drive GM vehicles I have seen where the "K" member can be removed in pieces. On these vehicles you only remove half of the "K" member and you can remove the transmission without removing the engine. Not sure if this is possible on a Ford.

How do I determine if the car is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive?

Generally, trucks, vans and large cars with big engines will have rear-wheel drive. Smaller, economy and compact cars are most often front-wheel drive. But you don't have to guess which one you have - find out for yourself.
jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); }); Instructions

  1. Understand that front-wheel drive means the power from the engine and the transmission goes to the front wheels; rear-wheel drive means the power goes to the rear wheels. Four-wheel, or all-wheel, drive means all four wheels are powered.

  2. Open the hood.

  3. Find the front of the engine. The front of the engine is always where the belts are located.

  4. Look to see if the front of the engine is by the fender (side of the car). If so, then you have front-wheel drive.

  5. Check to see if the front of the engine is by the radiator and the grill (front of the car). If so, then you have rear-wheel drive.

  6. Look under the car near each front wheel. If you see an axle with a rubber boot (called the CV boot) on either end going into the wheel, then you have front- wheel drive.

  7. Look under the car between the rear wheels. If you see a large, metal, pumpkin- shaped thing (it's called the differential) with two axles coming out either side, then you have rear-wheel drive.

  8. Check both under the hood for the position of the engine and under the car for the axles to be sure, because not every car follows the rules for engine position and front- or rear-wheel drive (see Tips below for examples of cars with variations on this rule).

I just need to know what size engine comes in a saturn SL1, it's a 1997?

Unless it has been modified it is a 1.9L 4 cylinder, the same engine in all Saturns from 91-99. The only difference is whether or not it is a SOHC or DOHC, meaning single or double overhead cam. Double overhead cam has spark plug sockets in the center of the top of the head and is overall slightly larger than the SOHC engine which has spark plug sockets on the front of the engine. Usually there will be something on the rear bumper like DOHC as well. The engines are nearly identical in all other respects but the transmissions are not the same. If your car has 14 inch wheels most likely you have a SOHC while if your wheels are 15 inch you have a DOHC.

Your Problem: hi, have a error code 45 ,automatic trans axle malfunctioning,I just pay $1000 for transmission fix, the guy said that code has nothing to do w/ transmission work. tx. jairo.

A transaxle, in the automotive field, is a major mechanical component which combines the functionality of the transmission, the differential and associated components of the driven axle into one integrated assembly. Transaxles are near universal in all automobile configurations that have the engine placed at the same end of the car as the driven wheels: the front-engine, front-wheel drive layout, rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout and rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout arrangements.
