93 dodge stealth SOHC V6 not starting right away

Engine turns over but will not start.There is fuel pressure to injectors and spark to plugs.When car sits over night or long periods of time it turns over for 5 to 10 minutes before starting.And sometimes starts right away. Any help would be appreciated.

    I have a 93 Stealth, it seems after any moisture, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes of cranking the engine to start. I replace the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, and had a mechanic replace the distributor. Now it does not start at all, the mechanic powerwash the engine to simulate the conditions. They suggest a new ECM, I love this car but its becoming a money pit.

    Could it be the fuel pump, not enough pressure??? I ready don't want to put out the money for a new ECM

Should check if the injectors are shooting the fuel, if not it could be your ecm

The easiest way to relieve the fuel pressure is to start your engine and pull the Fuel Pump Relay - car should die. Now there is no fuel pressure. Turn the key to the off position and change out the fuel filter. Once the filter is changed, put the relay back in and prime the system - turn the key on (don't start) for a few seconds. Turn off, turn key on for a few seconds then start the car. Check for leaks by filter. Easy peasy. Hope this was helpful :-)

What else have you checked? Have plugs been done and are they champions? Fuel pressure tested? Compression test done?

if the engine turns over then check for spark at the plugs. if this is good then check for fuel pressure with a gage. if the pressure is not right the car won`t start. you could have a plugged fuel filter.

My money says it is the ECU (engine control unit) early 90's Mitsubishi's are known for poor capacitors in their ECUs. If the car is not starting, if it has spark but no fuel my first money is that of the ECU. If it has fuel but no spark I expect something within the electronics.

Is this engine the SOHC or DOHC.

If you need to replace the ECU there is a MD number you need to use to match the proper unit. The ECU is located under the stereo, remove the two interior flaps (carpet strips) that cover the shifter are. The ECU has 3 large electical plugs, remove these and unbolt the (3) 10MM bolts to get the ECU out

I have owned and replace three Mitsubishi veichles with bad ECU, one of which is my son's 93 Dodge Stealth with 3.0 SOHC.

Always check for spark and fuel wgrn trying to diagnose a no-start. Check for fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. Look up the recommended fuel pressure for your vehicle. If It's in range then fuel filter probably good. Check for spark by unhooking a wire at spark plug and connecting it to a spark tester and have someone try to start while you watch for spark.
