I live in South Africa and have a Mazda midge 323 160i 5 door hatch back but am not sure of its year model. My registration papers show the first year of registration as 1997, but I am not sure. The enginge number is 7B02505 and the VIN number is afatxfs44tr156827. How or where can I have the year model of the engine/car checked?

check for wires to the idle/fuel control module on the pump

you should be able to tell by opening the hood and looking at the engine. They will usually say on the plastic engine cover what displacement it is. Either that or look for the build sticker under the hood and it should say on it.

You can clean these with brake cleaner or something comparable. Brake cleaner doesn't leave a residue. If it is mounted directly to the throttle body, then clean all of it. Start the car rev it up and spray it in, Keep the rpm's high enough so not to kill the engine. You don't have to use the entire can. Fords are the same way, the start to run bad because the MAF gets contaminated with oil and dust, spray them off and all is good till next time. Just a note.... Never use a brush or anything on the MAF, as you said they are very sensitive

Fig. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in 2 stages

To install:

1. Clean the mating surfaces on the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head.
   
2. Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold. Torque the bolts in sequence as follows:
   1. 16 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
      
   2. 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
