Problems with Auto Lock Continually Blowing Fuse

I have a 2005 Malibu Maxx,  Both remote key fobs stopped working - no unlock or lock feature nor would it unlock rear hatch.  Checked and saw that fuse was blown.  Replaced fuse -after driving for one day, was blown again.  Took to Chevy dealer  - so far they have replaced the fuse box, the power door lock module and one other sensor in the door related to power locks.  Drove it again and it worked for about 4 times and then bam - gone again.  The dealership has no idea and GM had recommended the replacement of the fuse box.  Any ideas because GM obviously doesn't.The "repairs" are reaching $500 for no solution!  Thanks so much for your help!

Hello Zoeno
Well in my experience it sure sounds like a bad wire in the wiring in the door jam. I have seen that happen before from the door shutting and opening all the time, I think there is a way to check it, if you put a fuse back in it and try using the passenger door to get in and out. If the fuse don't blow again after using the other door (drivers side) you have found your problem. I don't understand why GM would even change your fuse box for that it doesn't make any sense, I have been a shop owner for 11years now and a mechanic for 20 years and have seen many problem with electrical systems and when a fuse blows it is usually a bare wire touching somewhere in the system, also there is a relay for just about everything in that car, and could be a problem too. I know it may be a inconveniance to go thru the other door but it should help figure out if its the wiring in that drivers door or not. I sure hope that helps you out some, Thanks for using FixYa.com Bear001

Door locks to side doors will not lock or unlock using either the key fob or door buttons. Back hatch will unlock using key fob

Check the fuse for the door locks first, then if nothing there look for a wiring diagram that shows the ground wire location and verify the ground is made. Also the driver side lock switch button could be the culprit

Hi Jason:

We've had similar problems with our Aztek and Buick.
The problem was with the Body Control Module and was beyond my fixit skills.
The local GM dealer attended to it for a cost of approx $1,000 per vehicle.
Definite PITA
Hope you have better luck.

How do I program fob for mabilu maxx 2005

You have to go to a Chevy dealer. They have a hand-held computer they plug into your car to get it into programming mode. Probably cost $50-$60. Call them for an estimate.

Key fob unlock does not work

This happen with our 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx LTZ. Open your fob and test the battery. If you measurement is not 3 volts; replace the battery. Our battery was fine, but my fob worked by pressing the circuit board directly. Bought a new case with rubber inserted my old fob board. works fine

Hatch won't open on 2004 Malibu Maxx

Try pushing the trunk release and turning the key in the lock at the same time.
It sounds like the electric lock has not released for what ever reason.
You should hear the trunk release relay when you push the remote.

Key fob malfunction

The fab key it self may be bad at the unlock switch it self and the fab key needs to be replaced. You can try to reset the fab lock if you like and see if that addresses the issue.
Important
Once the Keyless entry receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode, the programming of the first transmitter erases all previous transmitter programming information. You must then program all of the transmitters.

Program only 1 vehicle remote control door lock receiver at a time. If you program multiple receivers simultaneously, the same transmitter could possibly be programmed to more than 1 remote control door lock receiver.

Perform the following steps:
Sit in the vehicle driver's seat. (actually it’s much err from the front pass seat)
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Close all of the vehicle's doors.
Remove the MALL PGM fuse from the fuse panel. Refer to Electronic Diagnosis in Body and Chassis.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ACC position.
Turn the ignition lock cylinder OFF, then back to ACC within 1 second.
Open and then close any vehicle door. You will hear a chime when the remote control door lock receiver enters the programming/diagnostic mode. If you do not hear a chime, start again at step 1.

Important
After 7 seconds, you may hear a chime confirming successful synchronization. After approximately 14 seconds, you will hear a chime confirming successful programming.

Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
Repeat step 8 in order to program each additional transmitter.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Install the MALL PGM fuse back into the fuse panel. Refer to Electrical Diagnosis in Body and Chassis.
Validate that all the transmitters that were programmed operate properly. Refer to Keyless Entry System Operation

Good luck and hope this helps. If you have problems you can try asking the service department at the dealer where you bought the car or where you have the car serviced. Simple things like this most of the time will not cost much and may even be free of charge if you have a good relationship with them.
Good luck and hope this helps.

2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx - Electrical Problems?

Hello I am not sure if this is the exact fix but I was having the same problem and I took my Malibu in to be checked and it appears to be a problem inside the steering column. When I turn the steering wheel it makes the door locks go crazy!! So although this is not a fix it may be a place to look for a frayed wire or a short in the wires. I am taking my Malibu in on Monday to be checked. Good luck to all having the same problem.
