1999 GMC Yukon, Do I need to replace the stop light switch if my brake lights only come on when I push the pedal real hard to the floor. I have already replaced the brakes and did a new brake booster. Is it hard to put the switch on the pedal?

Hey do-it your-selfer are your brakes O.K. Do you have to push youpedal down "real hard to the floor" after you hung all these parts on your Yukon! If so check to make sure the vacuum line is hooked up to the booster. Anyway the brake switch itself is not that hard. You can remove a panel under the steering column to get more room. Pull the switch up from the brake pedal bracket till it comes out. Install the new one, connect the wires. If you push it in to far, put both feet under pedal and gently pull up, you'll hear it set itself. Have someone check brake lights while you step on pedal. Good luck, best regards.

Sounds like you are on the right road with the switch. Before I bought a new switch I would locate the switch, it will come in direct contact with the brake pedal arm, and see if there is an adjustment or if it has moved for some odd reason. Sometimes things just happen.

What do I have to remove to get to the brake light switch?

If you lay on your back on the drivers side floor and look at the brake pedal arm you should be able to see the brake light switch. You shouldn't have to remove anything to access it.

1999 Yukon Denali stop shifting out of park.

Check the brake lights when this happens, if they are not on then you have found the problem it is the brake light circuit. Go under the dash if the brick lights don't work and check the brake light switch above the brake pedal, it should have 12 volts in and out with the brake pedal pushed down. See typical brake light switch location below. #4 in diagram is brk lite switch.

Dont know how to get to the brake light switch on 99 yukon denali

Hi to locate the brake light switch you need to have a very close look at the brake pedal (now this is where you need to be a contortionist) if you follow the brake pedal right to the top just before it goes through the bulk head, now at the very top of the pedal if you have a close look you will see the brake light switch its actually located at the very back and very top of the brake pedal.

its a bit hard to get to but if you slide the drivers seat right back and you sort of break your neck twisting round to have a close look at the brake pedal you should just about see the brake light switch its at the very back of the pedal and will have a couple of wires going to it.

now if you have got big hands your in trouble as its very hard to get to so you may struggle.

let me know if you have any problems ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

My brake lights on my 99 gmc yukon are not working what could be wrong? i have checked all the fuses and all of them work i also checked the bolbs and they are working aswell

Change the break light switch under the brake pedal. I have a 97 yukon and it's probably the same, it is really hard to get to. You have to take off the panel under the stirring wheel then look directly behind the brake pedal, it's a big white plastic piece you have to to unplug it. It took us an hour to get it off

How do I replace the brake light switch in a 1999 GMC Yukon?

Hi there,

Well go to the brake pedal and it is mounted under there then unplug the connector and screw out the part then screw the new one in and replug the connector in.
The switch is usually made of plastic and has a 2 or 4 wire connection and what looks like a threaded rod with a button on the end.
The switch is removed by pushing the button end of the switch with enough pressure as to cause the threaded portion of the switch to push out of the metal collar that supports it.
Installation is just to push the threaded end of the switch back into the metal bracket until the button touches the brake pedal arm. Post further comments for more help or information.......

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Brake lights for 2005 gmc yukon does not work.

If your fuses and bulbs are all good, then look above your brake pedal and you will see your brake switch up along your brake pedal arm. It will either be between the brake arm and the firewall so when you brake it pushes the switch in. Or it will be between the dash and the brake arm so when you brake it pulls the switch out. Most likely this switch needs to be replaced

Brake lights stay on till the pedal is pulled back not the switch I replaced it

Two things come to mind:

1) Pivot bushing on the pedal swing arm might be bad.

2) It could be the brake master cylinder is sticking/binding and not allowing it to return all the way. The MC connecting rod may need adjusting, too.
