I have a '94 XJ6 Gold 4.0l Auto ,it was fitted with a Jaguar encrypted rolling code immobiliser in 1998 by Grange Jaguar (I have the original certificate).Yesterday I started the car as normal, ran it for 15 mins, then switched it off.Usually a few seconds after switching off there are two tones from the alarm system, but I cannot rember hearing them. Now the car will not start or turn the engine,it is just like if you are trying to start the car when not in park or neutral. What can I do,I'm a long way from any Jag dealers and it is quite an old car

Hi,
I would suggest that you telephone the people whom fitted the coded sensor and ask them why the car immobiliser is in silent mode and will it affect the car's "limp home " mode.

Depending on their explanation, will determine whether you have some sort of warranty obligation from Jaguar. Jaguar have improved their customer relations beyond belief to what it passed for a few years ago, and I would venture to say that they will be willing to assist you.

Good luck:)

1994 jaguar xj6 will not stsrt

Check immobiliser switch (fitted to drivers side footwell on Right hand drive cars) designed to kill engine and fuel pump if car turns over. Sometimes jumping the kerb can set them off. Also check central electrode in distributor cap.

I have a 94' jaguar xj6 auto, a warning light in orange shaped like a diamond ring shape with a cross over it has appeared on the left of the dash, what does it indicate? thanks Steve.

It means that one of your outside lights are not working. I had that on my dash too. Luckily I got the original book with mine. Hope it helps.

Hi, iv a 94 vw transporter and key is missing, the van has been parked for 3 years and i just want to find out if it wud start and if the engine is ok,,,is it fitted with an immobiliser?, if so i dont mind...

Immobilisers have been mandatory in all new cars sold in Germany since 1 January 1998, in the United Kingdom since 1 October 1998, in Finland since 1998, in Australia since 2001 and in Canada since 2007. Early models used a static code in the ignition key (or key fob) which was recognised by an RFID loop around the lock barrel and checked against the vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU) for a match. If the code is unrecognised, the ECU will not allow fuel to flow and ignition to take place. Later models use rolling codes or advanced cryptography to defeat copying of the code from the key or ECU. You do not say where you live. So have to be a bit generic. Hope this helps.

Radio in car is asking for code

I had this when I first got my 1991 XJ6 (XJ40). I contacted my local Jaguar dealer with the problem, and from the chassis number, he was able to give me the correct security code for the radio. If your car has the original radio still fitted, as mine had, then your local dealer should be able to do the same for you.

Starting issue with 1994 jaguar xj6

Had similar problem which ended up being the Park Gear selection position. Do you get a beep noise when out of gear? What about when in park. Although my car was in Park, it needed wiggling out a little while turning the ignition to get it to crank and has been this way ever since.
Also had a Sovereign with an immobiliser that gave me the same no start problems some times, no solution other than an expert auto electrician for that.

Radio code

You'll need to call a Jag dealer and prove you own the car legally. Be prepared to show a bill of sale, a title, and the vehicel's VIN.
