Grand am wont start. it is turning over tho. i tried the security fix (leaving it on for 10-20 mins, then off and trying) but it still won't start.

Does sound like the fuel pump if it started after tapping on it,but the security light is a different problem. That will also kill the fuel,but if you drove it home,that problem must have started after you got home.Not sure what year it is but if it has a chip in the ign. key,try a different key,if there is no chip run the pass key relearn .
Takes about a half hour,make sure the battery is fully charged and try to kill the daytime running lights if possible,(maybe set the parking brake,some trucks that shuts off the DRL)
Then crank the engine,leave the key on(as if it was running) after about 10 min the security light should go out.When it does turn the key off and crank it again,same deal,key left on for 10 min. till the light goes out. Have to do this 3 times ,should start on the 4th attempt. That will reset the security , but if the pump is bad it still may not start,the security light should be out tho.
When the pumps wear out the brushes you can get them to run once or twice by tapping on the tank,sometimes,but it sounds like a pump as in order.

Turn the key to the on position, leave it on until the security light stops flashing. (About 10 minutes) turn key off, then try to start. If it starts it's a bad body control module. Google override directions.

a bad security system would restrict the ignition system from activating so the engine may be perfectly fine but until the security system give it the ok, its gonna sit. have someone take a look at the security system and see if they cant fix the system or deactivate it (what use is a security system if your car wont start right?)

remove your radio, there will be 2 bolts to undo, switch will slide into dash, unplug harness turn key to remove cable, if ignition wont turn you may have to take ignition apart to remove cable. reinstall in reverse procedure. will need to relearn new key to be able to start. try to start, leave key in run position, theft/security light will be blinking. leave on for 15 min or light stops blinking, turn off turn back to run without trying to start. leave on for another 15 min. turn off then start

Normally you WILL HAVE THE RESET PROCEDURES IN THE OWNERS MANUAL BUT IF NOT PLEASE TRY THIS pull the positive battery off the post and leave it off for 10 min then reattach it AND ATTEMPT TO START THE VEHICAL IF IT STARTS GREAT HOWEVER IF NOT TRY THIS
turn the key to on DO NOT START THOUGH LEAVE IT THERE FOR 3 MIN THEN TURN THE KEY TO OFF FOR 30 SEC THEN BACK TO THE ON FOR 3 MIN AGAIN THEN REPEAT THIS STEP 1 MORE TIME THEN LEAVE SIT FOR 1 MIN THEN ATTEMPT TO START THE VEHICAL

Hi, I had the same problem with mine. It is the security feature. turn your key over to acc for 15 min. or until the security light stops blinking, then turn your key off and try to start it, it should work just fine:)

You could try resetting the computer. The car maybe in lockout mode. Try turning your car over….leave the ignition on. Wait exactly 10 min. Then try turning over again….again leave the key on. Wait exactly 10 min and do it a third time….this time the car should start…maybe run a lil rough while it relearns the processes of your vehicle again. It is important to wait the exact 10 min each time. You will probably need a battery charger or a set of jumper cables because if your car goes low during this process it will not work. If it is a security issue a code will be stored. Until you check that a code is not stored then all suggestions will be a waste of time.
You really need a diagnostic scanner hooked up to see whats going on.

I had the same problem. You have to turn the key to start and let it sit there for 10 min while the key is sitting on start after 10 min the security light should stop flashing and it should just stay on once that happens you can turn your rkey all the way and it should start
