(2004 Jeep Wrangler) When the clutch is engaged and I am accelerating, there is a metal on metal scraping noise from the transmission area. It only occurs loudly enough for it to be heard over other noise during acceleration. It may be constant, but it is not heard during idle. It has also started a slight vibration while traveling at higher speeds, but it is barely noticeable.

I would agree with Clint Smock. I had a similar issue, after checking the U Joint it was starting to become loose and wobble, sometimes causing the shaft to strike other metal parts and giving the whole jeep a good shake during acceleration. The joints pins holes also started to form an oval shape.

Left unchecked the problem will get worse and more noticable over time depending on your driving habbits. Replacing the Joint fixed my issues, hopefully this will help with yours as well.

Correction, This was my issue, and it was resolved by replacing the U-Joint.

SOURCE: 2004 Jeep Wrangler - Clunking Noise when shifting out of Park

It could be lash in the differential which is normal, but it could also be a loose u-joint in the driveshaft. Check the rear driveshaft u-joints.

There could be a number of culprits. My first suggestion is to replace your fuel filter. It may be so clogged that idle speed doesn't draw enough petro to keep cylinders happy. Your fuel pump might be on the blink too. Lastly, you might want to inspect your Throttle Body Injector (TBI). It, too, could be clogged and starving the engine of fuel. Somehow, you've got a fuel starvation issue at idle speeds. Good luck.

SOURCE: 95 jeep wrangler splutters, jerks, backfires during acceleration

The ECU controls all of that. When they start to go bad they do very strange things that are hard to diagnose. They run about $300 bucks of you do it yourself. They are simple to do. Shop around because it is an electrical component and many places wont warranty them but some places do if your lucky you can find one. I also would not rule out your timing or distributor. I dont know you or what you have checked but could be the rotor or could be carbon tracking inside the distributor. Even the slightest crack in the cap can mess everthing up.

Marble noise in my 1990 Jeep wrangler

98 Jeep Wrangler will shift when off but not while running makes grinding noise.

There is something wrong with the clutch. Make sure that there is enough clutch fluid in it. For some reason the clutch isn't disengaging like it should, so you are grinding the gears in your transmission, making that awful noise. You want to get it looked at before you ruin your transmission by stripping the gears.

Have a 2004 jeep wrangler x with a manual transmission and when it is in nutral and the clutch out it rattles. Is this normal? i still have the factory warranty and went to a chrysler dealer and they tried...

A rattling noise from the transmission is never a normal condition no matter what anyone says, and the first thing to do is to check the transmission fluid level, but it sounds to me like the throw-out/release bearing is riding the clutch pressure plate, and when the clutch pedal is in the up position the throw-out/release bearing and the clutch pressure plate should not be touching each other, and the only time that they should make contact is to release the clutch disk in order to shift the transmission into gear. There should be about 1 to 2 inches of free play in the clutch pedal, and the clutch should start to grab within 1 to 2 inches of letting the clutch pedal up off of the floor, and if this is not the case you might need to have the clutch properly adjusted especially if the clutch does not start to grab until the clutch pedal is half way up from the floor. Also, the main bearing in the transmission could be going out due to low fluid, or a damaged pilot bearing that is allowing the transmission input shaft to wobble just enough to cause a rattle from the main bearing or even a vibration in the transmission.

I have a 2004 jeep wrangler with a manual trans rattle in nutral

It's not normal, it sounds like the throwout bearing may be making the noise. It's hard to say how long it will hold up. I've seen them make noise for a while. I would check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder.

It sounds like it is the throw out bearing. From your description of the vehicle not pulling its weight, it is going to need a clutch. The throw out bearing will come in most clutch kits, so when you replace the clutch you can replace the throw out bearing, pressure plate, and pilot bushing.
