Solenoid contacts are stuck in contact, not releasing and keeping current on the starter motor in the engaged position. Try turning off the engine, and tapping the starter motor soleniod with a piece of wood or soft hammer.

My car wants to keep starting even after turning the key off

solenoid may be sticking. Have someone start the car, if it sticks tap the solenoid with screw driver handle. If that stops the starter, replace the solenoid. If it were me, I wouldn't bother testing it and just replace solenoid.

2002 ford escape 3.0l while key is in on position the starter engages and car will start but is sounds as if the starter is staying engaged replaced ignition switch and starter rebuilt but still does it...

Try removing the starter and putting a small amount of grease on the bendix gear drive. That is the part you can see in the nose, with the gear. Not on the gear, grease the spiral shaft.

F 150 starts and starter stays engaged unplug alternator starts ok but no charge

2 problems, first you have bad starter or starter relay for starter staying engaged, keep alt plugged in has nothing to do with starter staying engauged, to test starter relay, jump at relay bat + post with red/bk wire on solonoid, if cranks over without staying engaged, then not relay or starter but rather in your ign switch, ford had bad problems with ign switch some years ago doing that

Starter stays engaged

The starter relay on the fender is the most common cause of this condition. ,It is on passenger side feder in the engine compartment, it is round and the positive cable of the battery goes to it,
