I have an '05 but am having the same problem - didn't discover it until the hot weather began a few weeks ago. When I put the setting up to 4, all kinds of dirt flew out also.

Sounds like the fan controller switch in the panel has gone nutty. I would take the car to the dealer and let them diagnose the issue, they are best when it comes to knowing your car the most and in diagnosing problems with them better than just a regular joe blow shop that works on everything and doesn't specialize in any particular issue.

2003 galant es. am/fm/cd radio does not work. all fuses good. what next?

the next step is pull the radio out and check to see if u have battery power to the radio, with the key turned to on you should have 12 volts to two wires, use a 12 volt test light to check this, they are avail from any auto parts store for about $4, if u have 12 volts as stated above the radio has failed and will need to be replaced or repaired.

2000 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl ES underhood squeal on right side

The probable causes are: 1. The drive belts are slipping. 2. The drive pulleys for some engine accessories are misaligned. 3. You have turned the steering wheel to the limits. 4. The drive belts are loose.5. Your brake drum backing plates are rubbing against the brake drum. The brakes also might be a problem. check the brake drums/discs. Finally check your wheel and wheel alignment.

2000 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl ES underhood squeal on right side

Be gentle with my rating. I am a long ways away. It sounds like a fan belt. You should pop the hood next time and see how it sounds when you have the squeeling going on. Fan belts will squeel until the get warmed up and then stop because the heat makes them grab the way they are ment too. Let me know, Raz

Instructions on how to turn air/heat on in 2003 mitsubishi galant

All those buttons normally are on the center concole. The heat/air knob turns to the red for heat, the more its turned in the red the hotter the heat blows. If your talking about the AC air, that should be on the knob that lets you chose the fan speed, just push it in to turn on the AC a light on the button may come on to let you know its been activated. the Rear Defrost is a single button, i think with 3 wavy lines top to bottom also in the center concole.

1999 Galant-4 cylinder- automatic. The check engine light came on and the cooling fan stopped. The fan will not come on when the engine is hot, but when you turn the AC to position 1, the fan comes on...

hello check engine light came on first things first check fuse for cooling fan second see if the fan relay checks out okay if so the culpret most likely your temp sensor is out of range the reason for the fan with ac this has a seperate fan relay good luck

Air conditioner

this is the way the car is designed when the defrost is on it runs the are threw the evaporator with the AC on . this dries out the air to help defog or defrost your windshield. american cars have been doing this since the 80's . the original idea was to work the compressor in the winter. a AC system sitting not being used has more repairs than one that is used all the time.
i hope this helps
