1996 olds 88 3.8 engine starts up runs about 15 minutes then shut down.Wait a while and will do same cycle over. I replace fuel pump, filter tank clean. No codes, engine runs find until it stops getting fuel, fuel pump stops fuel pressure drops gradually. Would the tank pressure sensor have any thing to do with problem, pump relay or possible a bad connection. I don't have a wiring diagram to trace out wiring. as mention car runs find no emmision codes of any sort. Install new intake plenum dued to old one blew off, old fuel pump was working but decided to replaced along with filter..I was told possible a bad black wire under drivers side carpet might be corroded but would this cause to do same cycle over and over. Need to get vehicle back to road condition asap.Would apprecaite any help on this!! Thankd for taking time to read this.

There is a fuel pump prime cycle (2 or 3 seconds)when you turn the key to on and once you start the engine the fuel pump power comes though the oil pressure switch. No oil pressure,no power to the pump.maybe your oil pressure switch has become weak?I would use a scan tool and command the fuel pump on when it does shut off, just to make sure the pump can run,as it could be a bad pump too. Also when it does quit,if you turn the key off for 10 seconds, you should get a prime cycle by turning the key to on.Have someone listen at the gas tank for a fuel pump noise, which will be only 2 or 3 seconds, but will do as a pump running check.Next would be to check for power at the back at or near the fuel pump, power and no pump.replace pump.No power to pump, follow power back to the front through oil pressure switch and fuel pump relay etc.You can always add your own power to the pump from a power source the switches off with the key if needed bypassing the existing wiring and oil pressure switch.

SOURCE: Vehicle dies while driving down the road.

could it be the A/C pump kicking in. might be boging down the motor or electrical circuit, not letting the injectors get enough power. This could happen if the bearings are going bad in th A/C pump or there is a short in it. Just an idea. sounds like you have done the main components.

Gas was put in tank ,we are draining tank, was only run about 500 feet, what should we do to make sure engine is flushed

Disconnect your fuel line from the Fuel tank, take off the fuel filter and allow it to drain. Renew fuel filter and fill filter cup with diesel. Open line going to the injectors from the filter cup and allow to drain. Turn on the ignition while the line is disconnected and allow the pump to flow clearing any residual gas, do not crank the engine. With the fuel line disconnected from the injector, remove the glow plug relay. Crank the engine several times for 10-15 seconds at a time to cycle the fuel through without spark. Re-connect the fuel lines and replace the relay. Make sure that you have primed your fuel system as if you had ran out of fuel which by this point it already should be. Start the engine and run for 5 seconds, shut off, repeat this start cycle several times and you should be good.

1996 honda accord starts up fine runs 10 15 minutes engine shuts down wait 5 ,10 minutes starts back up shuts off short time after

sounds like there could be a problem somewhere along the fuel line either between the pump and that engine or between the filter and the engine i have a car that would do the same thing turned out to be the fuel filter was full of **** ran like a dream after i changed that.

I have a 1996 Mercury Villager (Canadian version) with 60 K miles. Sometimes when starting, the engine turns but it wont start. When this situation occurs, I usually try to start again while pressing on...

I would definitely consider the fuel pump. I had long turnover times before starting for years, but even worse was in hot weather it would just stall while driving. Sometimes it would only idle, but not run if you pressed the gas very far. Park it for 20-30 minutes and it would run again without another problem for weeks. Dealers and mechanics kept replacing other things like ignition coils and distributors. After a conversation where someone said they had the same problem, but only when they had less than half a tank of fuel, I knew it was the pump. I replaced it myself and all problems went away.
The fuel leaks back down to the tank and air gets in the lines. Then the pump is slow to build pressure up again. If you turn the key on, but not start, wait 45 seconds, off, on again but not start, wait again, now start it will take a little less time to start, less battery drain, until you fix the problem.
You may not have the heat problem in Canada. But here in Georgia it gets hot enough that if the fuel tank is low and the pump has this problem, it will overheat and shut down till it cools. A full tank helps it keep the pressure up and serves to cool the pump.

92 SL1 Intermitant stalling problem

Fuel pump,Fuel pump, Fuel pump,,, high mile cars will always out live their fuel pump. The stalls will become more frequent. But first change fuel filter if it has one outside the fuel tank, if it has it in the tank just replace the pump at the same time. Also next time when it stalls bang the bottom of the tank with your hand and try starting.

Fuel pump relay

If this happens every time you start your truck and it shuts off the same each time, you just might have a dirty fuel filter only allowing so much gas pass through until it clogs once again. I once had a chevy van, when I would drive it, would go a few miles and engine would shut down.   I would wait 10 or 15 minutes, it would start up and allow me to drive a few more miles then shut down again.  I changed the fuel filter, It was fine after that.

Check the glow plug timer relay. This is what determines the length of time your glow plugs stay on. If it is cycling off too soon, you will have this problem.,
