700r4 is pretty easy to rebuild. It likley burned up the 3-4 clutch pack. If you intend to rebuild it yourself, ebay is a great source to buy the kits. Make sure you look through it and get clutchs, steels, band, filter and bushings. Almost every kit comes with the seal kits. You should also put a new reaction sun shell in as they commonly break. It's less than $200 for all this and fluid.

Sounds like your transmission or lockup converter is slipping. The slipping causes heat and it is downshifting out of overdrive as a built-in protection strategy. Get the transmission looked at ASAP before you get stranded because it's stuck in a downward spiral right now. The problem could be caused by a stuck solenoid, which is a relatively cheap fix, but the more you drive it like this, the more you're working toward a full, expensive rebuild.

I have a 2002 ford focus and the car will not move in reverse. It moves forward in drive only, but won't kick into overdrive. Any ideas

sounds like its internal, like the reverse band, that applies the overdrive, or the clutches that apply when in overdrive, either way the reverse band and overdrive clutches work hand in hand, for overdrive and reverse... id say you need a rebuild or a junk yard unit.... :( sorry for the bad news.

The e4od trans sometime does not shift into reverse. it now stays in first gear for a long time before shifting to second. it also takes a long time shifting to overdrive. it seems to slip when shifting...

Its possible you have a code stored in the computer to help guide you.

Its also possible its time for a rebuild. Someone will have to remove the pan to see if there is any wear on the clutches.

What condition is the trans fluid in. Is it brown and burnt.

If your not sure you may need to get it inspected at least to see if you have a code stored, We can only guess here not seeing what condition the truck is in.

My '94 Grand Cherokee Limited has no power in reverse.

It sounds like the reverse band is out of adjustment. Three things can cause this, reverse band, front clutch and the overdrive direct clutch. To test the band, drive the truck in manual low up to 25 mph. Then let off, if the transmission doesn't pull the engine down, the band needs adjusted. If the front clutch is the problem, 3rd gear will be act weird too. The only test I know of for the overdrive direct is to inspect it, so process of elimination will have to work. Hopefully the problem is the band, because you can pull the pan, service the trans, adjust the band, and be done. Any of the other problems and you are looking at a rebuild. Good luck.
