What does p0660 mean on protege5 - 2002 Mazda Protege

P0660 This means there's a problem with the bank 1 of the engine intake manifold turning valve control circuit, which is usually caused by damaged wires or defective PCM,not the manifold.
The CIRCUIT more likely has the problem,not the manifold.

It does not throw codes" there isn't a word in engine diagnostics'. It displays or shows.. Good Luck

code p0660 refers to intake manifold tuning valve , bank 1 --circuit open===causes --wiring---intake tuning valve

code p0302 refers to cylinder 2 --misfire detected ===causes --engine mechanical fault--wiring ignition /fuel system---injector---ECT/MAF sensor---ECM
form you description I suggest that you have a compression test done and check for a loose valve seat insert for no 2 cylinder
That would account for the rattle and loss of power and misfire for that cylinder

the P0660 means "Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control Circuit (Bank 1)"

P0660 Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control Circuit/Open.. Although you may want to first look at a new EGR Valve - particularly in Mazda.

Po660 means "Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control Circuit/Open".it't means as same as "Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light".The Intake Manifold Tuning Valve (IMTV) system is monitored for failure during continuous, key ON engine OFF or key ON engine running self-test. The test fails when the signal on the monitor pin is more or less than an the expected calibrated range

 

what is the reason?
1,IMTV signal circuit open, shorted to power or ground.
2, Damaged IMTV actuator.
3,Damaged PCM.

if so sounds like the vvt actuator.....
