I am getting a master warning light and open door warning light coming on, the front dome light flashes and a message appears of the screen saying "car must be in P when parked in order to charge battery."
Check all 5 doors for closure, the rear hatch usually has the carpet stuck in it.

I suspect, make certain the rear hatch is fully closed... and the other 4 doors as well.
frequently the rear carpet moves and prevents the hatch from closing.
The open door warning should say " door open" not "car must be in P when parked in order to charge battery."

You need to readjust the switch on your trunk door, or replace. To check it locate it, tape it down with duct tape and see if the light goes off. If not it's bad. If it does it means it isn't sticking out far enough to be turned off when the trunk is closed. The adjusment should be fairly obvious. If not you can simply unplug it which has the same result as turning it off.

It might be shorted to another circuit. Does ammeter read below 0.30 amps. Sounds like its shorting between door-ajar and radio. You have to back probe circuits until you find the short.

The light that looks like a car with an exclamation mark in the middle of it is the HYBRID WARNING light (see diagram below) You must scn the onboard computer network to determine why this light is coming on. You also need to scan your computer system to find out why the engine keeps dying. If the hybrid batteries are discharged, they must be properly recharged to prevent serious damage.
CAUTION: Read ALL service and warning lables in the engine compartment before attempting ANY type of service on a hybrid vehicle. The wiring harnesses that have ORANGE connectors are HIGH VOLTAGE connectors and can cause serious injury or death.
DO NOT touch any wiring harness or component that has a HIGH VOLTAGE warning label on it.
My recommendation is to tow the vehicle to a qualified hybrid repair center (preferably the dealer) and get it properly diagnosed and repaired. The high-tech, high voltage systems in this vehicle is nothing for anyone but a trained, certified technician to be messing with.
