How to replace the light bulb under neath the gear shift?

jack up and safely go under neath vehicle and check the shift selector connection if good check cable /linkage from tranny to selector for proper connections and operations if good --try moving selector if moves try to put in neutral if hard to move or selector wont move possible internal gear damage

Remove the PRNDL trim ring.
Remove the upper console panel.
Slide the lower shift knob bezel downward.

1. Remove the bolt and lift up on the shift knob to remove.

Remove the lower shift knob bezel.
Disconnect the light bulb from the PRNDL bezel. an replace .

Don't think you need take shifter knob off . Just PRNDL trim plate an upper console plate . They should just pull up , use plastic trim tool to get it so you can get your fingers under an pull up carefully .

change your shifting linkage,

Follow these steps:-
- first check both bulbs.
- Next check you got voltage/Ground on the bulb holders.
- Bulb holder contacts may be bad if you get voltage.
- If no Voltage on Bulbs when Gear shift is at 'R'.
- Check Fuse, broken wires, check the switch under gear shift
which closes circuit when G/Shift is at 'R' position.

get under neath the vehicle and shift the gears manually with ur hand sounds like the leankage is either bent or loose

Could be a fuse. Check the interior firewall fuse box under the driver's side dashboard area. That's location of the fuse box. Probably wired in series....maybe wrong bulb replaced.

Dores the 09 corolla have a bulb or is it an electrical thing under the gear shift console?

If it's a flood shift under the pad where it reads P-R-N-D-2-1 will be a small light bulb under that, your will have to remove the shell to get to it, not very hard job to do.

More than likely you need new u-joints, but from judging from the date on this post, you probably found this out the hard way....

remove console and inspect for sought after malfunctioning bulbs and replace and reinstall console .
