05 taurus the car makes a grinding noise like a broken fan or something, it sounds like it is coming from with in the engine.

take the transmision cover plate off the bottom and check your flexplate for cracks or loose bolts between the flex plate and the torque converter..also chheck your motor mounts.. you may have a broken mount allowing the fan to rub on the shroud..

From what your saying it sounds like your fly wheel .or your starter's sylinoid may have some broken theeth.chech it out.

It is probably the blower motor itself, does it change sounds or quit when operating the fan? possible debris is in fan cage, fan has a bad bearing, or a blade balancer slip on weight fell off. remove and inspect, possibly plug fan in when removed and check for operation,while fan is removed check housing compartment for debris or foreign material laying in the bottom, check fan blade for signs of rubbing contacts or broken fins

where does the noise come from? engine? back of car? can you feel it in the steering wheel? more through the brake pedal? is it worse under heavy braking? does it change when you brake or accelerate harshly?

Does it make the sound like you are trying to start an already running engine? My 05 did that about once every 3 months since I bought it new. I put 40k miles on it and it never changed, dealer could not reprodice it.
