I put new thermostat on and it started running very hot again. I drilled to holes in the thermostat to increase the water flow and it still ran hot. It's weird cause the bottom radiator hose was running very hot and the upper hose was ice cold. So I thought there was a clog somewhere. I flushed out the radiator and the heater coil and water was running through everything. I hooked everything back up and put thermostat back in and was running hot again. My buddy went to take the top radiator hose off the thermostat housing and there was so much pressure that the coolant and water went everywhere. It runs just fine without the thermostat but I'm wanting some heat now. So my question is.....Could the new water pump you installed be bad or could there still be a restriction in the radiator or heater coil? I'm asking cause when the thermostat is out and the Jeep is idling the temp is at 210 and when I'm driving it drops all the way to around 100.

Flushing a radiator at home is most often a waste of time. The chemicals used by a radiator shop are far stronger than anything you get at the parts supply house. What happens is that the flow you see is deceptive as the water tends to flow around a partial restriction and does nothing to remove it.
Though your garden hose has a lot of pressure it doesn't have the volume necessary. A garden hose will usually be sufficient to flush out a heater core though as it's smaller.
Have a radiator shop flush your radiator core and have a hydrocarbon test done on the cooling system to eliminate the possibility of head gasket problems. When re-filling the system, turn the engine off just before it reaches 210 degrees and let it sit for a few minutes so the thermostat can open, then continue filling. Always fill with the heat on high. Thermostat goes in with the spring end into the engine.Forget about the water pump...unless you got one made for a twin engine marine (CCW) application it has nothing to do with the problem though I've heard but never actually seen that the belt can be installed so it turns backwards.
When the engine is at operating temp cover the grille and force it to nearly go into overheat...the electric fan should come on and the mechanical fan should lock up to try to counteract that.
Don't open the system when it's hot (you found that out already). And, don't allow the engine to actually overheat.
My bet without seeing it? Likely a partially obstructed radiator. 4.0 engines make a lot of rust residue even when maintained. If that's what you have in there, or even the 4cyl. It is more than likely.

Peugeot 206 temp gauge rapidly goes from middle to red light high. Fluctuates. Checked coolant ok. Worse with up hills and faster speed.

You may have a cracked cylinder head or damaged head gasket.
Open the coolant bottle and rev the engine, if you see bubbles and get an exhaust has smell then you probably have trouble.
Unless you are very mechanically inclined or better yet a mechanic, it’s not recommended you try fix it yourself.
If you don’t pick up any bubbles or exhaust gas smell, you may have a blockage or even an airlock in your cooling system

fill with coolant run until hot/normal temp. shut car off. let cool completely check level add to line cold level. Start run until at operating temp. check coolant hot level. Do not add coolant to hot tank scalding can occur!!, wait until engine is cool top off as needed. Check for leaks

Sounds like u have an air bubble. Easiest way to get that out is jack the frt of the truck up as high as u can get it with the radiator cap off and run it

Drained radiator added prestone Radiator flush refilled and started overheating, drained radiator replaced thermostat and now I get no heat from heater,Radiator water is hot

disconnect the heat hoses going into fire wall , put hose into one with pressure and flush as it sounds like it could be bloked in the heater core, the other thing that could be the problem be the hot ,cold switch as it restricts the flow to makes the heater hoter or colder , it might need tlc or replacing as it is manaul not elec

Suspect you have a loose clamp on a radiator hose or the oil change guy made something leak. There is a tool which is similar to a a bicycle pump in that it pressurizes the water system and your engine does not have to run or be hot to test. Some major auto parts stores may have a loaner.

Its going to stay hot and lose pressure until you fix the leak.

Overheating: 1999 bmw 323i m series 2.5 ..Installed: new water pump , thermostat. radiator, new Water Reservoir, cap.. hose on top side hot , lower hose cold even when engine is hot..no water circulating at...

the water pump and thermostat should have solved it. an air pocket can cause that but usually not to that degree.

don't get one of those cheap *** plastic impeller water pump for sissies. Get the metal impeller one. get a cool running thermostat and drill two 3/16" holes in it 180 degreess from each other. you may have installed the t-stat backwards.

Feel of the heater hoses going to the heater core,if they are not getting hot, then remove the heater hoses and flush the heater core out with a water hose. Also be sure to bleed all the air out of the cooling system.
