I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Laredo that sounds like its not going to start (will not turn over, hear no sounds or see no movement on instrument panel). No check engine lights come on or codes appear....if you hold the key in the starting position for several seconds, it will finally start up. Any idea what this could be?
Try replacing the crankshaft sensor sounds like thats your problem if not the fuses or relays still no luck them you might have pcm problems....

just take a towel and wrap around an ice scraper pry the top of the door with it and put a clothes hanger in the crack to push the unloc button

My 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee had the same problem. Over heated when standing still. Took it to dealer and they could not find any problem with cooling fan. After doing my own investigation I found out that the electric cooling fan would begin to seize up after about 1hr. of operating. (gets hot)
The dealer would look at fan and see that it was running and think its ok. The problem is, it wasn't running fast enough.
I have a relay on the right side of front fender and jumped the fan to stay on with motor off. (must know what your doing). After about 1hr. fan started slowing way down. Returned it to dealer told them what the problem was. They were not smart enough to jump the relay so they put a couple hundred miles on it even though i told them it works OK when moving. Make sure you tell dealer to use the relay to jump.
Replace cooling fan motor. Works great

The governor pressure sensor is the most likley cause however an inspection of fluid or debris in trans pan would be a good idea to make sure there's nothing excessive in it. Attached is a list of possible causes however the senor would be the most common.

Front drivers side could be a bad cap, lower hose or the radiator itself. You need to look carefully and find the leak source. Steam travels and isn't a good indication of where the actual leak is coolant will run down and take any path it can to reach the ground. Therefore, you need to follow it back to where it is coming from, then deal with it. Your water pump can also leak and run down the lower hose. there is a small hole in the pump behind the pulley. If you see coolant coming from there the pump needs to be replaced. Sealers will not work on hoses or pump leaks so don't bother using them for that.

i have the smae problem and not sure what it is. im having a mechanic go out saturday to see exactly whats wrong, he speacializes in jeeps. i will keep you updated , did you find anything out yet?
