No you dont need to reset anything,you replaced the headgasket,what is the warning light that you are getting.

go to your dealership and give them the make, model, and year of your car. next give the the serial number of the radio( should be in the glove box on a label. explain to the the problem, and they should be able to look up the 5 digit code for you(most dealerships do this for free). when you go to enter the code, the radio must be powered up for one hour before entering the code(in case of theft). hi it would be located in the trunk , or on the E34=1989-1995 5-series) its under the rear passager seat. check under the hood on the left side also it could be in a black cover and hard to see

the problem is in your dash. you are going to have to replace the battery in the instrument panel.
these will control the opening and closing of your thermostat. i bet that you are having issues with your tach and possibly fuel consumption. once you do this you are set.

Ihad this problem. the cable was louse inside the cable end. had to replace it

engine could be seized...:( sorry...or a hose could have blown (radiator) and hurt or disconnected a main electrical line ...check fuses battery and cables..there is a bulkhead power junction on firewall high rt. side(passenger) immediately next to engine..battery located under back seat passenger side...first thing though..make sure you can turn the motor over by hand (breaker bar on nut at crank pulley) to determine if it is not siezed...good luck

i would get cylinder head gasket checked
