I've owned a 96 Villager and a 97 Villager that both exhibited this problem on occaision. As I understand it the fuel pump is weak. When ambient temperature is high the gas line is subject to vapor lock. Usually my car gave a warning acting like it was running out of fuel in repeated fits. I had about 10 minutes to find a good place to pull off the road. That is why a 15-20 minute wait eliminates the problem. You can solve it by replacing the fuel pump with a higher rating. I personally chose not to spend the money and have put up with the few times a year the problem crops up.

My 1996 villager does the same thing during the summer. harder to start than in the winter?
Over 90 degrees the car stalls out and won't restart unless it cools down (10-15 minutes) will run again and repeat the process. Under 90 degrees it never does this.
