When I did a head gasket change on my 4runner, I made sure to fill the radiator and backfill the engine with coolant. I did this by disconnecting the upper radiator hose and poured coolant in there. This insured that I got coolant to both sides of the water pump/thermostat. From there, leave in running with the radiator cap off. You can kinda squeeze the upper radiator hose gently to push air out and allow it to work coolant back into it.Do this until you dont see any more bubbles and/or the problem is solved.
However, if you find that you are consuming coolant (ie, the coolant level goes down) you may have a leak or worse, if could be consuming coolant. Watch your coolant level and check your oil to make sure its not looking milkshake-y like its mixing with the coolant.
Sounds like there was a air bubble in the motor. but you replaced all that.then iwould change the thermastat. refill antifreeze and it should be fine. hope this helps!
Take it back because the antifreeze should not over heat. There may be air in the system still. It needs to be bled
