I own a 1999 Lexus 300ES and I am having a problem with the check engine light. Problem codes were associated with VVT system malfunction, with has caused other problems to occurr. The car is now misfiring from #1 #3 and #5. Could you please give me some insight. I was told by a Lexus mechanic that operating the car while the VVT was malfunction would not cause any additional problem to the car, beyond it driving crappyI own a 1999 Lexus 300ES and I am having a problem with the check engine light. I have the same problem. The check engine sign blinks and Trac off sign too. They both come and go. I got it checked from Firestone, they changed all my spark plugs and 3 coils. But of no use. I then took to Dealership they suggested it needs new ECM. What do you say.I have the same problem. The check engine sign blinks and Trac off sign too. They both come and go. This has been happening to my car as well. It typically happens when your oxygen sensors start to wear out. Mine does it once in a while and I have the local auto store reset it. Go to your nearest auto store and have them tell you what code it is and ask them to reset the OBD so the light goes out. If the light comes on right away and the code has to do with your oxygen sensors, have them replaced. There are three, two are easy to replace, one takes some effort as it is in a tough to get to spot. The dealer will charge you a fortune to replace them so do it yourself or through a local mechanic. It is a very simple task other then the access.
Before replacement of your expensive oxygen sensors, clean your MAF sensor with isopropyl alcohol. you can fix it by yourself. it takes about 20 min. You will never see the CEL Trac off. 1999 ES300 Lexus.

2000 Lexus Es300 Knock Sensor Replacement - Location & Repair. ... Check engine light comes on and you ...
Hi. If you find an answer to your problem with the trac off/engine light comming on way too often, please tell me so I can get my wifes 2001 es300 fixed. The dealer claims to have replaced the computer and numerous sensors on it's many trips back to the car lot. Once, it was kept for two months with the same problem comming back after 72 hours of regular use. I found, if you disconnect the battery for app. 20 seconds, then rehook it the lights on the dash go off for about 3 days. Help!!!
I had check engine light and TRAC OFF. OBD-II MIL code was P1133 which is Air Fuel Ratio Sensor Response Malfunction and scanned by AutoZone. After disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes, the lights went off. I cleaned the gas cap and tightened it firmly. For the last 400 miles, the lights have not come back. When scanning using Snap-on one, no code was detected. I think gas cap was the reason for the lights.
This happened to me as well, just a few weeks after buying our 1999 ES300. Took it into Lexus for regular maintenance and to check this out. Apparently, if you don't replace the gas cap correctly and tight enough this can cause the 'trac off' light to come one. It will go off a little while after the cap has been replaced correctly. This also happened with my 2006 Murano, 'check engine soon' message.
no, this is a fuel quality poor or water momentany, make this test: disconnect the negative battery terminal few minutes and reconnect, run the engine, drive and check
