'98 Honda Accord just shuts off while you are driving along

  • Anonymous Jan 18, 2011

A previously posted solution suggesting the main relay switch as the possible culprit sounds more like the resolution to my problem. Will post you back if it in fact solves the problem.
    Thank you

SOURCE: My honda accord 1999 shuts off

when temp rises, it slows/stops electronics. Inside your distributor there is a ICM chip. That's usually done the trick at my shop I used to have. Oh, other thing it could be is cat converter- is there exhaust (full) coming out?

98 Honda Accord LX stalls while driving then shuts off

Does it start immediaetly back up or do you have to let it sit and cool down a bit before it will restart? These are popular for internal distributor problems when they get older/high mileage.

'98 Honda Accord shuts down while you are driving.

Faulty ignition was the problem. There had been a recall back in '02 or '03 to replace the ignition because the car would inadvertently shut down. Checked many sources and finally found an experienced service rep. manager who remembered the recall and solved the problem by replacing the ignition under the old recall notice.

  • Sound a little like block exhaust or exhaust system starting to fail. If not this, the spark plugs are suspected. Have an old set of plugs around that you can replace to find out. Good luck.
