No the gas tank has nothing to do with it ..first thing is that the two rear fenders and rear bumper cover are bolted together and must be removed as a unit. First thing remove the inner fenders on both of the rear tires then look up and remove the T30 torq bolts and 10mm nuts on bottom the brake light housings must be removed from inside of the trunk there are 2 covers in the corners pop them out and ther will be a plastic knob remove taking care not to drop them then pop out lights with a small flat tip screwdriver unplug lights then take loose the gas door screw and remove clip holding the latch then pull out latch taking care to not break it. then remove all the screws on the outside under the rear deck lid T30 torq .gently pull on fenders and pull off the rear fender/bumper cover assembly taking care to not pull out oo far then take off 8mm nuts from heat shield on left backup lamp and unplug lights ..there u go the all u have to do is unblot the fenders and ur good to go

I wnet out of gas on my VW Beetle 2001 last saturday. When I added gas to the tank, the car wouldn't start and the EPC light went on and I haven't been able to get it to start ever since. Would the EPC light have anything to do with the gas pump or anything related to running out of gas?

Gas smell inside car and when refueling it constantly stops like the tank were full

beetles have what they call a "positive pressure"gas tank(the vent is in the cap)and it has a restriction in the filler to stop fuel leaking out if the car overturns. So if you try to put too much fuel in it will kickback and fill the recess in the fender.hence smell in car after refilling.......
(had 30 plus beetles in 3 years all great....when i worked for vw).

Hello how are you? I was wondering if you could assist/guide me?

There is a electric solenoid to pull the cable removing the pin to open the lid when the button at the driver door is activated. But this is known for unreliable due to the design. In order to release the lid manually, you can pull the trim panel in the trunk at the right side to get the mechanism releasing the cable. Back yard mechanics should be able to replace the solenoid, but instead let them fabricate a handle at the luggage area to manually release the lid. This will be cheaper and more reliable.

How do I drain the fuel out of my 2000 VW Bettle

The easiest way to drain the fuel is to siphon the fuel from the tank through a small polypropylene hose inserted down the filler port. Be careful to push the metallic flap aside when inserting and removing the siphon hose, a small screwdriver with a large handle should work fine (so you can't drop the screwdriver into the gast tank). The only other way will be to drop the gas tank, but they recommend siphoning the gas out before you actually remove the gas tank straps. You will also need to disconnect the battery cables before you drop the tank to avoid any sparks from the wire connections.

Headlamp replacement 1999 vw beetle

The headlight is actually a bulb inserted into a light module. You can remove the plastic light module by releasing the tension spring on the rear of the headliht housing inside your hood. Once the tension spring is released pull the plastic light module from the fender socket by gently pulling on the edges of the headlight. The module should pull out with some minor difficulty. Remove the bad bulb from the rear of the plastic bubble, and replace it with a new halogen bulb. Replace the module into the fender socket and reclip the tension spring(s). Not all that difficult of a job once you know how its accomplished.

2001 VW Beetle Will not start

Hi.
Check the heavy duty cables from the battery to the starter motor and solenoid and also the battery earthing (grounding?) - there terminals could be corroded / burned.

Hope this helps you a bit. If it does, a "Fixya" rating would be much appreciated. If it doesn't
help you, I'd be grateful if you didn't bother with a rating at all. Just come back and tell me what you found. Cheers, D
