Daewoo Lanos, turns over but will not start.......

The car turns over but will not fire-up. I have gotten it to fire-up by spraying engine starter fluid down intake duct. It will run for about 30 seconds and then shut down. I removed one fuel line from inline fuel filter, very little fuel came out of filter. I noticed that the fuel rail did not have any fuel pressure at all either. I have checked fuses related to fuel pump, as well as any relays. So far nothing. If ther is a fuel pump reset switch, I do not know location of switch. Tried to by a shop manual, hard to find locally! Want to eliminate any minor causes before diving into dropping fuel tank to remove fuel pump. any ideas??

O.K. Dave, I removed fuel pump, which is located under back seat.
Glad that I did not need to drop the gas tank down! Tested pump,
did a flow test, flowed fine for about 4 to 5 minutes, then it began to become unstable. The pump should run at a constant r.p.m. which in turn would provide constant fuel pressure. Instead, the pumps r.p.m. varied and almost stopped at one point. I would imagine that due to the length of fuel line to the fuel rail and injectors, the reduced fuel pressure would struggle to provide the required flow to the fuel system. I wont bother reinstalling the original pump. Now I get to spend big bucks on a new pump. Lucky me!

Back again, so after fussing with our Lanos, and removing fuel pump, I found that the power lead to the pump, (red) wire, was burnt to a crisp at the female terminal end of wire. Scary thought being that the pump assembly and wiring is submerged in the gas tank. I dont understand how in the world these pumps function with out at some point shorting out and causing a fire or an explosion. Anyway,
I cut damaged end of wire, soldered a new connector onto wire. I then did a bench test, then a flow test. Pump is running like new.
I then did a temp install of pump motor. I plugged pump into harness, reconnected battery, and turned key to start position, pump came on. Prior to all this, I had no power at the pump. Ran out of time so i will be reinstalling pump in the morning. I hope this cures the no-fuel issues.

Thank You Dave, also, thanks for your vote of confidence. Yes, I am mechanically inclined, and will take-on any mechanical challenge as long as I feel that I am not getting in over my head or abilities.
Having the right tools is key!
So, thanks for support, you guys rock!!!!!

What would cause low fuel rail pressure? I replaced fuel pump motor, wondering if pump motor is defective or a seal let go within the fuel pump canister. Fuel system seems to lose pressure. should the fuel system always hold fuel pressure even when the car is parked for a few hours? Car starts fine most of the time, runs strong until you make a left turn, then it stalls, only left turns, all the time. What are the symptoms of a failing fuel regulator?

Same problem but on a 2001 Lanos. Was just wondering is the fuel pump on the 2001 accessible via the same method as the 2002 discussed in this question? This is a hatchback.

I have the same problem. Car dies on left turns. When the tank is at about 200 miles also the car runs sluggish and sometimes dies at red lights. My car is a 2001 Daewoo Lanos. Any suggestions

2002 Nubiro chokes out when you accelarate. Hard to start also. Has 59,000 miles on it. Changed the fuel filters and Cat Converter. Does it sound like fuel injectors or pump?

Dave again i just posted you so it is definately fuel related listen to see if the fuel pump turns as described in my last post if it does not you can test the relay by replacing it with a known good relay like the horn if your horn works but your fuel pump does not turn swap em see if the horn works still and if the pump now works. If the pump works and the horn does not reinstal the horn relay in its original position and replace fuel pump relay. do the same with fuel pump fuse as sometimes the fuse looks okay but is not. If you have a test light hook it to ground and make sure both metal tabs on the fuse light the light when the pump is activaed.

SOURCE: Daewoo Lanos, turns over but will not start.......

You must check for power and ground to the fuel pump ,you will have power for approx. 2 seconds with key first turned to the run position and then you will have constant battery voltage during cranking. You may also want to go to AutoZone .com or Alldata.com and bur online manuel for you Daewoo.the are very reasonable and informative. If you find you have correct voltage supply and ground, and assuming the fuel guage is correct and there is fuel,it is very likely you will be replacing the fuel pump , strainer and filter. Don`t laugh on the fuel guage comment, I have had several vehicle towed in to me for no starts, only to find the guage not reading correctly , and the vehilcle was out of fuel.Good luck I hope this helps.

I have a 1997 daewoo lanos1.5l single over head cam and broke the timing belt then the engine stalled so i replaced belt and set the timing marks. every thing was correct when set the crankshaft was top...

hi, just letting you know my timing belt just went on my daewoo lanos. unfortunately it seems in a daewoo lanos that when the timing belt goes, it can do damage to one of the valves. mine is in at the mechanics and i am still hoping that it hasnt done any damage. i was also told that if you have replaced the timing belt and the car still wont start it has definitely done damage to a valve. sorry to give you the bad news!!

Not starting after replacing plugs and leads ??? help

What do you mean by 'turn over?' Is the starter not working or do you mean it isn't firing? 'Turning over' normally means that the starter is functional even though the engine doesn't start.

Daewoo lanos not starting after renewing water pump

YOU DON'T HAVE THE TIMING CORRECT AT ALL. YOU DON'T HAVE IT TIMED RIGHT ON THE ENGINE. IF YOU KEEP TRYING TO START IT AND RUN IT, YOUR GOING TO CAUSE SEVERE VALVE DAMAGE TO YOUR ENGINE ... BENT VALVES. TAKE IT TO A SHOP AND HAVE THEM FIX THE PROBLEM BEFORE YOU MAKE IT WORSE.
