If you need to add tranny fluid just pour it in where the dipstick goes. but first make sure to check it while it is hot so you don't over-fill. you really don't won't that with that ford. depending on what your problem is you may not need fluid, just a tranny filter. hope this helps

Transmission fluid for this make and model is not put in the traditional way thru a dipstick.. This vehicle has a plug underneath the front end on the drivers side. It would need to be put on a lift to access it and fill it. Or to even check it to see if it needs fluid for that matter.
I have this same vehicle..Its a pain but thats' the only way to do it.

My 02 mercury mountaineer transmisson sims to have problems changing gears the over drive light is flashing

have the transmission fluid level checked , if you don't know when it was last changed i'd have that done , as old fluid loses its viscosity and other properties just like engine oil

I have mercury mountaineer 2004 v8 the reverse no work maybe need change the oil transmission

If you have over 75,000 miles and never replaced the transmission fluid and you do not have a engine light on, you need a new transmission.

My 2004 mercury mountaineer started leaking fluid and I think that it may be the transmission fluid, because it started smoking. What do I do?

OIL WILL BE BLACK IN COLOR! TRANSMISSION FLUID IS RED! IT MIGHT BE LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST! RECOMMEND HAVING A SHOP CHECK IT OUT FOR YOU!
