Rear hatch on my versa wont unlock or open. how do I remove the inside panel?

When all else fails, call a dealer.

REPLACE THE REAR DOOR ACTUATOR, THAT IS THE MOTOR THAT UNLOCKS THE DOOR FOR THE HANDLE TO WORK, THE KEY DOESN'T MOVE THE LOCK TO OPEN THE DOOR, REMOVE REAR DOOR PANEL TO ACCESS IT, ROUND HOLE WITH COVER FROM INSIDE CAR WILL ACCESS EMERGENCY KEY WAY WITH SCREWDRIVER CAN OPEN DOOR FROM INSIDE, GOOD LUCK!!

The release contact switch must be dirty and corroded...you will have to jiggle the rear hatch...when trying to open again...when open spray the hold down bracket, and the under side of the hatch that makes contact...the best spray for this is PB Blaster, available at Walmart auto parts section...this will not hurt the electric contacts...as you still cannot open the rear hatch, you will need to remove the inside panel of the rear hatch to expose the release arm on the inside of the hatch. Hope this helps.

Bad lock actuator: (NOTE: If your hatch is locked)
First remove rear panel- pull the plastic panel at the top center, until (2)clips pop off, then pop (2) more clips at the mid-center. Stick your arm down until you reach the lock, with your fingers, feel for the squishy plastic( inside is the bar that goes up to unlock), it is attached to the lever to unlock. Pull up the lever until you can open the hatch. There are four more clips at the top sides and middle sides, and four plastic screws at the bottom which is only accessible when the hatch is opened.
The lock is only sold as an assembly at $100.

Release and raise the rear hatch using either the unlock button on the inside of the driver's door or a keyless remote, locate the hatch release on the inside of the hatch, then depress the hatch pins using a flat-head screwdriver, and remove the hatch panel holding clips with the trim panel remover.

Remove the rear hatch release panel with your hands, detach the release cable C-clip with the flathead screwdriver, then carefully pull the hatch wiring out with your hands.

Remove the rear hatch release with the ratchet and socket.

your going to have to remove it from the inside, remove as many screws as you can that hold the panel on, then pry panel open until you can reach linkage to pop window and then linkage to open rear gate. good luck.
