Overheating can seriously damage a car's engine if left unchecked. Although overheating simply means that a car's engine temperature exceeds normal operating temperatures, the causes of overheating are varied. What follows is a brief list of some of the most common causes of engine overheating.
Faulty Radiator
I have the same vehicle (w/315k on 2.2l engine!). You may want to observe the operation of the radiator cooling fan. If it does not turn "with authority" when hot, the fan clutch may be defective. (I removed the fan and clutch and installed an electric fan and controller. Saves gas and has extended the life of the water pump at least 2X.)
A broken impeller on the water pump will cause overheating. It is worth checking in your case.
Just wondering how did you fix problem? was it the heater core causing poor flow due to restricted /clog core or was it electrical caused by control panel?
I have 99 dodge with dual heater cores and replaced every thing but the heater cores and have ordered new control panel that doesnt change from vent to defrost..
Just trey to save the nightmare labor of replacing heater cores as there alot of labor involved.. Be helpful to know what fixed your vans over heating
