Traction control light and abs light

I have a 2002 audi 1.8 t multitronic. recently i have found that the traction control light and the abs light comes on even if the road surface is fine and not under braking

  • navinag Oct 14, 2008

I have the same problem. I have 2001 A4 and the ABS and traction control lights come after driving a few miles. Is this truly indicative of low brake pads?
Can I diagnose this before changing the pads?

I have the same issue as well and my brakes are good still only 1 1/2 years old and tires 1 year old. I have a mechanic that may not know how to fix it but here's the story. I have a Audi A6 2.7T 2001 Sports Pack and the traction control and ABS lights would come one when at high speeds or if i try to go fast at a stop light. The light would go away after i release the gas and do notice a slight power lose. This all started to happen when i got my car back from the mechanic, they originally tried to troubleshoot a coolant leak and they first thought it was the coolant pump which was replaced when i did the timing belt 2 and a half years ago. They removed the bumper and all to check the coolant pump but later said it was the Thermostat cover housing. When i got my car back these lights started coming on so i went back and he said it was the Master Air Flow sensor, so they replaced it but I still get these light coming on. I'm going back a third time but wanted to see if I can shed some light to them to help them troubleshoot the issue.

I'm not a car repair guy but if I had to guess it's something they didn't put back together right. The issue wasn't happening prior to me coming into their shop. And I don't want to keep paying for charges they think the problem is.

PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTIONBefore diagnosing ABS/TCS, perform a comprehensive visual inspection of system as follows.Check ABS/TCS wiring harness connectors for looseness. Check harness routing; pay particular attention to wheel speed sensor wiring harness routing. Check fuses No. 1D, 5B and 6B in instrument panel fuse block. Check fuses No. 1 and 2 in underhood fuse block. Check brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir. Check brake fluid level in Pressure Modulator Valve (PMV) assembly reservoir. Ensure parking brake is fully released. Ensure parking brake switch is functioning properly. Always perform ABS/TCS system functional check before using DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHARTSThe EBCM/EBTCM has self-diagnostic capability, which can detect system failures. Fault codes stored by EBCM/EBTCM can be displayed using Tech 1 scan tester. There are no provisions for flash code diagnostics.Begin ABS/TCS diagnosis with PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION procedure. If failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, perform necessary repairs, and proceed with ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK. See Fig. 5 .If no failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, go to ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK. See Fig. 5 . The ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK will either indicate ABS/TCS is functioning properly or direct technician to various diagnostic procedures such as diagnostic charts, symptom diagnosis or BRAKE warning light diagnosis.CHART D - TRACTION OFF WARNING LIGHT ON CONTINUOUSLY & NO DTC SET (BUICK WITH UH8 OR U2A INSTRUMENT CLUSTER)Circuit DescriptionWhen ignition switch is first turned to RUN position, EBTCM goes through a self-test, which lasts 2-4 seconds. During self-test, EBTCM commands TRACTION OFF indicator warning light on. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) can also command EBTCM to set a Code 75 which will illuminate TRACTION OFF indicator.Traction control switch is located either on instrument panel center trim plate or driver's front door trim panel. Switch allows driver to select traction control mode (on/off). When traction control system is turned off, TRACTION OFF warning light comes on.EBTCM monitors transaxle temperature through

Go to a local auto parts store and have the alternator checked also.

Im not sure but alot of stability and traction control systems use the abs sensors. If there is possibly something wrong with your abs it might have a influence on your stability problem.

2002 a4 2.5 tdi quattro Traction control light comes on loss of power.. Got the egr valve replaced.. still the same...

traction control has nothing to do with the egr valve.

likely you have a bad wheel speed sensor somewhere.

Have the ABS scanned with a scan tool at your dealer
perhaps.

Hope this helps.

The abs and the traction control light is on, how can i solve this problem

Hello. The Antilock Brake System [ABS] and tractioin control light are both connected to sensors near each tire. In many instances the systems work but one or more of the sensors goes bad. With the ABS system, you will know it is not working if the brakes do not pump themselves during a fast stop.
Begin by driving to an Auto Zone or similar auto parts store and have them put their scanner on your Audi. This will pinpoint the problems with your abs and your traction control. From there you will be able to decide on what course of action to take. Regards, Joe

Lincoln ls year 2000 v8 3.9litres

ABS and traction control really are only for panic stops and if your tires slip on wet surface's and yes each tire has a sensor on it. However if the brake light comes on this has nothing to do with the ABS or traction control lights. It's not a parking brake light. This light tells you, you have a serious brake problem.

2001 impala abs brakes light comes on only when you go thru water

The traction control system uses the abs wheel sensors to detect wheel speed if the abs light is on the entire abs system will disable giving you regular braking but it will also stop feeding info to the traction control
