Hi

What type of whinning? does it get worse when you push the gas? if so then most likely cause is either loose or worn altenator belt, they can often be tightened up again. quite cheap to reapir also.

Hope this helps.
if not please give me more info
Regards
Dan

You have a leak in the power steering system. It should be easy to find just look for where the fluid is dropping onto the ground below the vehicle while parked, then look under the vehicle to see where the leak is coming from. Make repairs as needed.

Transmission whinning when put into gear

Gday mate, geoff here, sounds like you are low on transmission oil, check if the level is low, do this with the engine running in park with the handbrake on, also if the oil is not red but has been "burnt" and is brown, it will need to be changed, hope this helps, geoff.

check fluid level when car running, sounds like a pump wine, is it slight or annoying? you could try lucas oil trans medic additive as well as a trans fluid change. Get opinion from a reputable trans shop, or just drive and ya never know.

2002 dodge durango whinning noise will your

Thank you for getting back to me. I would like you to check your transmission fluid. start the engine and let it warm up at idle speed for about 15 min and check the fluid. It sounds like you do not have enough in it, there for the whining noise with increase of speed since your transmission is speeding up with the rate of your vehicle. If this does not help and the problem persist please let me know. If the noise you were hearing was coming from the u joints of the vehicle it would not make a whining noise with increase of speed. The u joints will only make a noise when they are going bad when the vehicle is shifted into any gear from the shifter( EX: park to drive, park to reverse ECT.)

There is a whinning noise when I shift from park to dive for about 2-3 seconds then no noise at all shift fine driving down the road.

Try changing the oil and filter in the trans...use an additive such as lucas along with the oil. If the noise is from something minor that may help. Otherwise, you will need someone to run it on a lift and see just where the noise is coming from.
