Engine over heated very quickly . engine died and will not start back what could be causing it not to start back after engine has cooled ? It does turn over as if it going to. there's no sign of water in the oil

When the engine dies with the ignition on the check engine light comes on no matter what. Go to your local auto parts store for a free check with an OBS2 scanner. They will tell you whats wrong or turn off the check engine if nothing is wrong. No charge it's free.

At best, this would really be hard to find, since you can drive it hours before it happens. You could start by pulling all the fuses one at a time check them and put them back in. This gets rid of corrosion contact problems. You can also do the to all the plugs. Sounds like you have a heat up problem. Some thing in the electrical system is getting hot and loosing contact. Things that would kill the engine would be , the ignition switch, the map sensor, the mass air flow sensor, And the engine control module. Parts inside of these can heat up enough to loose contact. Your's is going to be a hard one to find. Until the part completely dies.

sounds like a fuel problem, how many miles on vehicle? as a quick fix it would be worth using a fuel addative , you haven't said if petrol or diesel, if petrol get addative that covers the catalytic converter ,having a blocked exhaust system can cause engine to stall also get the OBD codes read as this will tell you what if any sensors/switch's are faulty

P0340 is cam position sensor. P1685 is for the key(has a chip in it) P1684 is battery has been disconnected. If the engine will still crank then codes P1684 & P1685 are probably old codes. So if the car will still crank, lets forget about those codes and focus on P0340 A bad cam position sensor will cause the engine to die and not allow it to start back up. Replace the cam position sensor and clear the code and the car should start up.

engine barely turns over, wont start, battery dead but only 1 year old, suspect generator but dont know for sure, need quick way to test.

If the engine overheated while driving, damage to the cylinder head gasket or engine block/cylinder head may have been done, which would prevent the vehicle from starting.

rear cylinder block core plug its behind the bell housing.It has been caused by running the engine with no antifreeze which also acts as an anti corrosion inhibitor .

if a temp. light does not come on and the engine is not over heating I would look into the ignition components such as ignition module inside the distributor, sometimes when these components heat up they can cause this problem you described

Sounds like a fuel problem, Bad fuel pump relay of actual fuel pump check relay first may be working intermittently.( Replace relay first before going to pump). Good luck thanks for using FIX YA
