My mama had this exact same model with the same problem, you will have to manually push the hood latch back over to the closed position, after you pop the hood release to open the hood you have to reach under the hood and push the release to the left or right to open the hood, once you have opened the hood simply push the hood latch back in the opposite direction of the way you push it to open the hood, make sure you push it as far as it will go, for some reason on these cars the spring that pulls the latch back to closed position does'nt work

Adjust hood

Loosen the hood latch mounting bolts- you should then be able to move the latch assembly up or down. If you move it down the hood will latch closer to the bumper. Hope this helps

Hood latch won't latch when closing

Raise hood, have some one go pull hood latch and you look at latch and see if it releases,if it doesn't then cable may need replacing,I would'nt completely shut hood cause you may not get back open, also check hood latches bolts and latch for something bent or broken.

My alarm keeps going off. Last year I had the hood latch repaired. And it worked for 1 yr, 1 mth. I would rather disarm the alarm than pay another $200 for another hood latch. Where is the fuse that...

I've had same problem. Dealer refused to replace hood latch under their extended warranty despite the Toyota Bulletin on the problem. I just DISCONNECTED the hood latch sensor. To get to the hood latch get under the plastic covering over the hood latch by removing the plastic retaining buttons attaching the cover to the frame. Do this by using a sharp edge to pull up the center piece of the retaining buttons, which then lets the outer button pop out. After you get under the plastic cover find the wire coming out of the latch assembly (not the latch release cable you used to open the hood). The sensor wire couples with other wires for the alarm right there. Just disconnect it. The dealer said I may not be able to lock by car as a result of disconnecting the hood latch sensor. But that hasn't happened, and the alarm hasn't gone off since.

I drive a 1991 Buick Park Avenue and I can't get the hood to open on my car. It overheated yesterday and I need to pop the hood to see the problem, but the hood won't come up. I tried the release lever...

I would have someone hold the hood release latch while bumping the front of the hood to try to bump the hood loose. Once opened, be sure to lubricate the hood latch under the hood and also lubericate the safety latch as well to prevent this in the future. Use white lithium grease to lube all latches. Be sure to work the latch a couple dozen times after lubricating a few times before closing the hood to ensure it is working properly.

Can not open the hood on a 2009 sierra with the hood latch

sometimes the hood adjustment for the latch is too tight, pull the hood latch, go out to the hood and press down on it at the latch location, push hard and release quickly, then adjust the latch before closing hood

My hood latch is broken on my 2001 Subaru Outback. How do I manually opent the hood? I think my problem is the same. I have a 1997 Legacy--when I pop the hood, it releases, but I can't located the latch...

If the cable link to the latch is rusty or broken you have to take the front grid down. It's relatively easy. It's held there by plastic fasteners. Then reach for the latch with you hand, or the leftover broken cable. Pull it, it should release the first latch, than you just have to get to the security latch, like you usually do to open the hood.
