Sounds like a battery problem try to jump it off you could have a battery draw from a module this can occur or an aftermarket accessory can cause this

I have a BMW 323i and the Check Engine Light came on last night a 1/4 mile from home. Made it home okay, but today the car won't turn over. Nothing at all.

Question edited to add maker.
Question moved to model category.

All your issues are electronic. The clicking and lights flashing and not starting makes me think it is the security system that is the problem. You need an auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to diagnose. You have many issues by the sound of it.

3281 bmw eml light come on and car cut off

A fault code has generated in the ECM.
Being that your car is a 1996 it is probably OBD II and will require the use of a tool to determine the error.

Most likely it's your O2 sensor. Has it ever been changed?

This link will show you all you need to know about determining the fault that is causing your light to come on.

BMW 1999 318i eml light come on whilst driving. Car drives well but light still on. Any thoughts to why ?

The EML light will come on if you have an emissions fault , the car may drive ok but you may find you are using more fuel , it would be better to get the problem checked just to be on the safe side , regards mark.

Yes, this sounds like a flat battery. You could try to get a jump start off someone else, so that you know it is definately not the engine. Otherwise, purchase a new battery and you should be fine.

Eml and diagnostic problems

As for the limp mode unless you have an expensive diagnostic system this usually has to be done by BMW (anything to get ya to a dealership!!). The comms problem, is the key turned in the ignition?

328i BMW, and the EML light is on

Sometimes you can reset the engine warning light by disconnecting the battery for ten minutes or more (be sure you have your stereo unlock code if needed).
That is not a good solution, it is better to diagnose and eventually fix the problem.
Have the car computer scanned with a code reader, the codes you get in return witll tell you exactly where to find the problem.

Here is the code list.

To get the codes the code reader must be connected to the car computer.

sometimes on Bmw you may need a Interface 16 pin Adapter, depending on the code reader.

Here is a home user code reader : PocketScan™ OBD II Code Reader (AXRCP9125 ...

Here is a good scaner.

Always better having the job done at a qualified garage.
