My 1999 golf gti has a problem where it just conks out on you driving or even sitting at lights. Mechanic has never been able to find the problem. I heard these cars have a problem for that. They should of all been recalled.

some markets have one lamp,some have two...(even though you have matching rear lamp clusters)left hand drive lamp on left rhd,lamp on right.check bulb,then fuse,then switch,after that, wiring.
if you have alot of mile son this car its worn crankshaft bearings. Try some oil additive this will help keep the viscosity of the oil up. if you have alot of miles drain a quart and add a quart
Hi,if you want to make sure its your airflow meter,get a buddy with the same car and just test his in your car..(A.F.M is situated on the left,behind your battery is the filter box,the pipe connecting to the box is where it sits)
check the shifter as it should have the reverse contact in the console, if the shifter has some play in it then the contacts for the switch could have become damaged.. good luck
