SOURCE: Replace headlamp assy on 1998 Jaguar XJ8L

If you just have a broken lense, you can pop off the old unit with a largish screw driver.
open the bonnet,un plug the light...the lamp is clipped on in 4 places, put your screw driver behind the bowl part of the lamp and prize forwards not too hard tho and the light should pop off, then the new one, offer it up to the mounting with the 4 balls on then just give it a tap with your hand not too hard so ya dont break it....plug it in...job done !!

1998 jaguar xj8l, it wont start, i can hear the fuelpump come on but also hear gas pouring back into the tank, is this normal or has my fuel line come loose?

Have verified the injectors are energized and if the ignition coils are firing the spark plugs. Do your rpm indicator show the engine is turning and sending a signal to the rpm gauge.

Goes into fail-safe mode with no power. S-type Jaguar

Common tranny problem. This is also known as the "limp home mode". Turn the ignition off for 15 seconds, and turn the car back on. It should kick in normal mode again. The cause is electrical. The system shares the ground with all the engine sensors and a fault with them will cause this problem. Most commonly the coils and spark plugs. DON'T take it to the dealer. The only thing they know how to do is replace the tranny for $5k or more and the problem comes back. When at all possible, get your tranny flushed every 35K miles to keep it working strong. Its a sealed tranny and does not allow for regular checks like an other cars. Ive worked on them in my shop and own an X type with the same problem as yourself with is now fixed. So get the coils checked/replaced, replace the plugs (double platinum autolite works great), and clean all your negative ground wires. This will resolve your issues.

99 Jag xj8l stopped shifting low gears, only goes in high gear.

You will need to have your tranny rebuilt or get a replacement. As a mechanic myslef, I have seen this a few times in the Jag XJ series. Those people eneded up having tranny replaced as well.
