Did you forget to plug up the neutral safety switch? 96 models have two different designs. The old style which is two plugs at the front left corner of the the transmission and the new design which is one large rectangular plug just above this location. Be aware that the second design also changer from round pins to flat pins and they do not interchange. If you have this mismatch you can change the connector to match the sensor.Let me know if i can help. Also make sure both wires are tight on the starter motor.
The engine plenum will have to be removed. This is what the air goes thru to get to the engine intake. Remove ground, mark tag remove required cable, wires and hoses, take digital photos as you go. Be patient. The good news is we don't have to change them every 20K miles.
