94 C1500 5.7L automatic trans 150K miles. Recently bought. Has always had an intermittant low idle that lasts a few seconds and goes away. Two weeks ago, I filled up gas tank. Cranked truck, tried to pull away from the station, it stalled and quit running, then wouldn't crank. Towed home replaced fuel pump and filter. OK for a few days. Went for a drive stalled in parking lot and wouldn't crank.Squirted starting fluid into the throttle body and it fired right up. I headed home and it quit twice on the way but cranked both times. I rebuilt the fuel pressure regulator and truck runs now. However, it still has the intermittant low idle as before. So, I am sure it'll quit again, probably miles from home. Any ideas what to check next. The check engine light has never been on during any of this. Thanks, Allen W.

Even though it is a new pump it doesnt mean that it is putting out the correct pressure the fuel pressure for your truck should be between 9 and 13 lbs... do you have a check engine light on?

I would check the vacuum lines thoroughly as one may have collasped or previous owner replaced with a substandard one, which may be partially collaspe then upon warming up will vacuum itself shut causing the motor to surge then fail to run or start if it happens to be a main line that is affected.

My 94 explorer 4 x 4 4.0L automatic trans has 150k miles. The trans has been serviced twice. Recently the vehicle hesitates to engage into reverse or drive when first started cold and at intermittent...

Actually in cold weather that's common and normal. In cold weather it can take up to a minute or two for transmission fluid to warm up, expand and build up pressure. I reside in Minnesota and this time of year that's normal. On really cold days let it warm up for a minute or so.

Maybe a stretched transfer case chain.
I wouldn't rule out some trans issues
Got the correct fluid in transfer or proper level
The clunk sounds like ,U-joints
Check all the mounts on everything, trans, transfer.etc

Ford Contour apparently starves for gas, dies.

tell your mechanic to replace the fuel filter. This part is usually less than $10. It should be replaced aout every 50K miles.
