The heater has no cables it is all controlled by electric motors.

What would cause the heat control to not close so that there is heat all the time?

    Hello.
The heat and AC air temperature is controlled by a door that either mixes or "blends" hot air from the heater core or cold air from the AC evaporator core inside the dash air ducting. In your case the problem you have is common and caused by a tiny specialized electric motor called the blend door actuator motor. In most cases this motor fails due to excessive resistance of the movement of the blend due to heat warping the plastic blend door that the motor moves to control air temperature, so both parts are replaced in most cases to repair the problem. If the door is free and doesn't bind when moving then just the blend door motor can be replaced. The repair in most cases requires the entire dash assembly be removed, this is a very labor intensive job and the repair can run up to $1000.00

Yes. If it was bought in the US, it was coded for the US, so have a US dealer provide the code.

SOURCE: BMW Z3 WRONG UNLOCK RADIO CODE HOW TO GET THE RIGHT ONE

If the radio is displaying code wait, or wait, then the ignition and radio must remain on for 1hour. I would contact a dealer within the USA and provide them with your radio serial number. The serial number can be displayed in the radio by pressing and holding down the "M" button while turning on the ignition.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 BMW Z3. The battery went dead last

most new BMW's the fuse block is located behind the glove box. There should be a pair of twist plastic fastners at the back of the glove box, twist and remove the plate and you should find the fuse box and fuse locater list.

2001 BMW Z3 2.5 my heater went out. Blows cool air. I checked the coolant level and itwas a little low. filled it...cool air still....what should I do next...sharon

i would have the cooling system flushed and have the heater core flushed seperate half the time the heater core gets clogged with crud and you get very little coolant flow through causing no or poor heat.

My bmw 2002 z3 reverse lights wont come on. Its not the bulbs. What could it be?

There is nominally a fuse, relay, and a switch associated with your reverse lights. Possible repair listed from 'easy to hard' by escalation

easy:
disconnect your negative battery cable, check the fuse block. It should be a 20A fuse(#F203). Some models use a 10A fuse(#F26). Replace as needed
Reconnect the battery, test.
if that doesn't work...

moderate.
have already checked the fuse, check to see if you have a "reversing light relay" (K6325) (My 2001 z3 does not) If present, disconnect negative battery cable and replace the entire relay. It is not worth trying to refurbish them.
Reconnect the battery, test.
if that doesn't work...

hard...
If both the fuse and relay are in good order, it is likely a fault in your wiring or the "reversing light switch"(S8511)

On the manual transmission:
The switch is located on the left of the gertrag transmission
The switch is located on the right of the ZF transmission

unscrew the switch from the transmission
install the new switch, tighten to 15 ft-lbs torque

On the automatic transmission:
If replacing the fuse and relay did not work there is an issue with your transmission range switch, various shift solenoids, shift linkage, etc. I highly recommend a dealer or qualified facility's examination.

I hope this helped!

Z3 fuel gauge twitch

Do not top off tank when fueling. Had this problem and realized that it occured when I topped up after the pump shut off. No problem since. Feel that when topping up, you overfill the tank and fuel gets in the vent line and charcoal filter which somehow affects the fuel gauge. I have a 99 Z3 coupe.

1997 BMW z3 1.9 L. I am feeling and hearing a squeaking noise when I turn the wheel. Can I change out the steering wheel without worrying about the srs?

I had the same problem on my 98 z3 1.9. I sprayed a little silicone spray lubricant from the bottom of the steering wheel into the crack between the stationary and turning parts. That took care of it (for a couple of months now).

Positive battery cable

You must make sure the connection is clean and tight. Chip away any corrosion, which can sometimes be hard and crusty. Make sure the cable is not frayed or a significant amount of individual strands of copper broken at the terminal connector.

Make sure your alternator is working and you are not running your car on the battery. Measure the voltage while the car is running, it should be around 14 volts.
