Unfortunetly there is no engine lights on. (no code)

  • carlitor Jan 09, 2011

I had tooken the car to Autozone and they could not find any codes, also the spark plugs & wires are about three months old ( autozone brand) does that makes a difference? battery was replaced and I also noticed the Alternator is getting warmer then usual. I found that awkward.

    Thanx

  • carlitor Jan 09, 2011

I agree, It seems so odd for the car to shut-off with no related problems. Can the DTC be chked at autozone witht their machine?

  • carlitor Jan 09, 2011

Yes none were found...well thanx for the feedback.. I will continue to try and find the problem.

Is there a check engine light on or trouble codes stored in the PCM? (powertrain control module)
How many miles are on this vehicle? The first step is to check the PCM, but you will need a code reader to do so, or bring the vehicle to an Autozone or similar store, and they can check codes...free. I'm not sure what the diagnostic result was for CKP replacement, I'm assuming there was a code(s)????

Wow...that is a first. A engine that stalls out intermittently should have a code stored in the PCM. So, with that said, what condition are the spark plugs in?

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2011

For a vehicle to have this condition and not flag a code is an intermittent issue that, to be very honest, will require scanner connected to the DTC, and when the vehicle is running, and it stalls or dies with the scanner connected, will allow a tech to see what is going on with all the engine management components. It also may be fuel pressure related, and I'm assuming the pressure was not checked with a gauge at the time of engine stall? The spark plug brand should not be an issue, and I'm also assuming they were replaced because of this issue, and the problem still persists. As far as the alternator being warmer than usual, how does one know this temp value?? I have never heard of a temp spec for an alternator. What is the battery voltage reading cold and what is the reading when the engine is running?

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2011

They already have checked the DTC. The DTC stands for diagnostic trouble code, and none were found.

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2011

I would recommend checking the fuel pressure with a gauge, and monitor the fuel pressure when the engine stalls. This will have to be ruled out as a possible cause.

    ok.....

2002 impala 3.4 crank no start, no check engine light, or security light besides the one by radio that flashes

Hi Jarrek.
Since you had to pulse the injectors to start the motor its possible your camshaft position sensor/crankshaft position sensor is bad (More than likely your Camshaft Position Sensor). Another possibility is your MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor may be bad, going bad, or just dirty. The parts store sells a cleaner for the MAF sensor. DON'T clean the sensor with anything else, it will damage it. Hope this helps. Let me know.

While driving noticed check engine light ,slip, and ect light on dash came on proceeded my journey , when i started up the car again it took several cranks before starting. Next day drove about half a mile...

the bank#1 cam position sensor has failed.this is located in the back of the cyl. head closest to fire wall.takes several attempts to start because lack of signal puts ecm in fail safe mode and it substitutes a value to get engine started.about a$100 for sensor and half hour to put it in.

2003 impala stall out of nowhere while driving what to do?

Fooling with the battery cable only fixes the problem because it wastes time while the car is flooded. Instead... pretend like you are fooling with the battery cable and then after a couple minutes, try starting the car again. It will start.

There are many things to check. Most commonly, the crankshaft position sensor. Unfortunately, it's the hardest to replace. It will take about 1 hour to replace if you have the right harmonic balancer puller. Other things to check that are easier...

2 Camshaft position sensor
3 MAF sensor
4 IAC
5 Fuel pressure regulator
6 Vacuum leak

Most of the time this problem is fixed by replacing the Crank sensor, but not always. Lesson learned here... Never buy a GM again.

Luckily your heated seats haven't caught fire and burned your clothing and your back. If it ever does happen... do yourself a favor, let it burn and get a new car (not another GM.)
