a simple trick to finding a short is to replace the blown fuse with a pair of spade terminals, then use small jumper wires to connect them to a 12 volt light bulb. A brake light bulb works well. When the circuit is live and the short is present, the bulb will be full brightness and hot so be sure it's not laying on the carpet or against a plastic door panel. Now you can unplug electrical connectors and move things around to see what makes the short go away. When it does, the bulb will get dim or go out.
Either way the shifter is stuck in Park. To get my car out of Park I turned to key to the start position, or actually started the car. Then turn the key back one position. Without pressing the brake pedal you can shift out of park. You then can shift to neutral, start the car and get moving, at least you can move the vehicle or get it to a repair shop to replace the brake light switch and the shifter release solenoid if needed
The brake cable may have stretched and isn't completely releasing. Or the switch under the handle isn't hitting the brake lever, maybe a pen or something under it ?
The emergency brake cable could have stuck on enough to make the light stay on. Sometimes a little lubricant on the cables might help. Try setting and releasing the emergency brake a couple of times. I have even had to get under the car and tap the brake cable to release it fully.
might
have a brake lock. i would pull the center consol and make sure its
working fine, unhook the cable then check it, if it works unhook the
cable from the trany and see if the cable is stuck. if not then chaulk
the rear wheel and see if you can move the shifter on the trany by hand.
you should find your problem in one of these things.
hope this helps it should fix the problem
hi
this maybe due to the brake switch being either stuck in or the switch itself has broken, if you look under your dashboard where the brake peddle is, you should see a black or white plastic thing being held to a small bracket, there should be a little plunger sticking out, if not, unplug the switch ( should be a 2 wire plug ) then undo the nut holding it in the bracket, and have a look and see if the plunger is broken or just stuck in, it could have some dirt holding it in place, just pull it back out and lubricate with a light oil, obviously if it is broken just purchase a new one....hope this helps please vote thanks
Brake lights working, then the Shifter interlock soleniod is stuck or burt out, also the release for the interlock is on right side of console, remove plug, and depress the pin, the cable can off the release to, or bamaged interlock. The interlock recieves 12 volts from brake circuit, can be tested at the soleniod. GOOD LUCK. RDJRP
Hello!
From your description it sounds like the warning light switch has either come adrift or stuck? If you examine the hand brake area look around for possibly a White plastic plunger that should be exposed when the hand brake is lifted/applied. To confirm identification there will be two wires possibly in a clip on plug going to it.
If the plunger/switch is in situe then it may have stuck, try gently pushing the plunger in and out it is sprung loaded so resistance should be felt, if you touch it and it is sloppy the try getting behind it and pushing the body back into its slot. You may have to remove the sock/gaitor that covers the hand brake base.
If all fails then try removing carefully the wired plug to it and the light will be permanently off on the Dash.

Change the brake light switch on the brake pedal arm. Go down to the
parts store and ask for a new brake liight switch for your Pathfinder
and look up under the dash where the brake pedal arm goes and you will
see the switch. You will need to unplug the wires to your old one and
disconnect it and install the new one the same way. It is pretty much
self adjusting once the brake pedal is released. If the brake light
does not go out adjust the switch pin to be longer so it will depress
when the pedal is released
