What does it mean when the drive & reverse indicator light or on at same time and car jerks like it loses pressure in a 1992 lexus ls400, also reverse ligts dont come on doing this issue

I have a 1992 LS 400 and twice it has not shifted out of second and I had instrument lights give false information and once it would not start. Long story short, all problems were caused by broken wires in the bundle by the left trunk hinge. My mechanic lengthened the broken wires and dressed the bundle away from the hinge. So far, so good. Remember the old computer adage, garbage in, garbage out ? This is true re: this car's computer.
