I just had the same thing happen. My 2008 Impala LTZ. Out doing errands and pulled in to parking spot. 30 minutes later went to leave and chrome button on gear shift would not push in to allow shifter to move out of park. Towed to Chevrolet dealer and they replaced a broken wire to shift lock solenoid, This has happened too many times not to be considered a recall.

I have 07 Impala same thing happened to me & as I type my friend is having to replace the wires to make a firm connection to the BTSI selinoid switch - only problem I've had is finding the wiring & connector from Auto parts store - Finally was able to find & friend is replacing. If you take to Chevy dealership The cost is upwards of $600.00 The parts cost $18.26 for 3 wires, medal things to attach 2 wires - yellow wire broken - gear shifter won't come out of park Purple wire the key won't come out of ignition. Have absolutely no idea what the other 2 wires do. Good luck

2008 chevy impala won't come out of park

It's probably your park solenoid. It is located underneath the shifter, it kind of hard to get at, but if your handy you can do it. the part cost about $70 to $80. You may have to get the part at a Chevy dealer.

2007 chevy impala Shifter stuck in park

Do you have brake lights? The brake switch on the pedal has to work to send a signal to a solenoid at the shifter to release park.

My 2008 Chevy Impala's gear shifter button is not releasing when put into park so the key will not come out of the ignition and causes the battery to die. Car engine will shut off but power stays on.

Take a little WD-40 and spray beside the button with the straw. Work it back and forth the best you can to include a few smacks on the shifter itself. This will allow the lubricant to travel down the shaft of the shifter also. This should take care of it. Let me know.

A friend of mine has a 2008 chevy impala and it is stuck in park

This happened to mine. I took the cover off where the shifter is; there is a very small wire that came out on mine, the funny thing is it would only happen once in a while, then one day it wouldn't come out of park at all, that's when I found the wire.

My wifes car is stuck in park. It is a 2008 chevy impala

These cars have a shifter lock that is integrated with your brake pedal. The solenoid should release when your pedal is depressed.Check to make sure your fuses are good first.

2008 Chevy Impala transmission shift lever locked up...

I had this problem and its common on the impala. There is a manual release button under the shifter trim. Remove the trim and look down and on the passenger side you will see a silver button near the bottom. With the shifter in park push in the button and this will release the shifter. You can drive the car as long as you don't put it back in park. If you do just push in the button and release it again. My problem was a broken wire in the shifter cable. You won't find this release button in the owners manual. After mine was repaired I drilled a inch and one half hole in the passenger side of the console opposite the level of the button in case I had future problems. Just reach in with your finger and push in the button to release the shifter.
